R50/53 Chime on with no key in
Chime on with no key in
I'm about to throw in the towel on this. I have swapped the starter, put in a new ignition switch and checked all of the fuses. I can't get anything when I try to start the motor. Accessory position lights up the dash, fuel pump primes and dsc module cycles (clicks). But nothing when you turn the key to start.
I noticed something that seems weird too. The ignition chimes even when the key is removed. No lights are on and key is out of the ignition. But when you open the door it chimes as if reminding you that the key was left in. This made me think my problem might have been the ignition switch, but new switch just installed is doing the same thing.
Shrevemini was helping me diagnose things with inpa, but didn't see anything. He ran into trouble trying to get ista to communicate with my car. I've been doa for 2 months. Can anyone help?
Brad

Well...
Yes, the chime should stop when the key is removed (unless the headlamps are still on..I think).
My 2005 R53 has had this same issue happen perhaps twice every year since the warranty expired in 2008. I simply reinsert the key, then remove the key. All is quiet.
Best,
Monkey Juice.
