At least those VW engines are pretty simple. And light. I actually have a copy of that book somewhere, though I’ve never owned a beetle.
Thank goodness those engines were light. I remember getting all the internals, bearings and journals ready to button up the crankcase only to have the crank lock up every time. Kept ruining main bearings. Replaced them 3 times. I finally carried that engine on the metro bus, to the VW/performance shop to see if they could help. Apparently I had mistakenly put the main bearing retaining pin in the oil port and not in it's intended recess.. Point is - it was too damn cold to make silly mistakes

Atlanta doesn’t have the funds to keep snow plows sitting around doing nothing, and most Georgians run either all seasons or summer tires year round. Even if one guy’s vehicle was capable enough, he was stuck behind 50 people who didn’t have traction. Supposedly the city is better prepared now.
I worked on a movie up here in ATL a couple of years ago and the construction coordinator told me that he lived in Douglasville(?). By the time he got home, he had just enough time to feed his dog and head back to the set in ATL for the next days' shoot.
You mean snow like this on 9 December 2017? This is when they said an inch or two and we got this outside of Rome GA. Going to top off the Hummer with fuel tonight just in case.
Ugh!
Reminds me of a typical "mild" Spring snowfall in Minnesota.
Doesn't look like you'll be doing the "sideways sashay" in that monster.... if the weather gets that nasty this weekend .
Nah. It’ll drift . I’ve done some pretty lurid slides in pickups. I see no reason why Chief can’t make that Hummer boogie.
Thats the wifes truck, I mess that thing up she will never forgive me. You really don't want that big beast going side ways. Thats the reason I bought a Mini is to pull behind the motorhome and not that Hummer. If I mess either one of my Mini's up I will be devistated.
That looks pretty rough. Reminds me of the one I pulled out of my late father in-laws 1979 Ford F100 that had been sitting for a few years. I have been installing a new rear differential in my Escalade since the old one has ring and pinion whine. My new rotors will arrive today so I can finsh it up this afternoon after work. Gathering parts to do a 100,000 mile service to the R52.
Well, it did pick up fuel... and everything else in the tank, too. I'm hoping what's in the tank is just sludge, but my hopes aren't terribly high. I'm going to try some denatured alcohol to start with.

Yeah, this sat for a couple of years completely undriven. Before that it didn't get driven much for a few years. I don't remember if I mentioned it here on NAM, but whomever my uncle had been taking it to wasn't a very good mechanic. The carb had a rebuild sticker on it, but it had the wrong gaskets in it, the wrong float, the wrong filter, and two different sized jets, neither of which was correct. The drag link was loose at the pitman arm for no good reason. That was scary. The plug wire routing was... highly questionable. One plug was loose, and either I managed to switch four plug wires (doubtful, I labeled them when changing the plugs) or at least two were swapped. The timing was set "correctly" but the dwell was all kinds of wrong. Oh, and all three brake hoses were scary looking, and both front wheel cylinders were completely frozen. Also scary.
I've never messed with diffs before, though that does remind me that I should at least check the gear oil in the van.
I cleaned the fords fuel tank with a mixture of white vinegar and water. Turned out pretty good but I did end up replacing it a few years later after it sat while I was on a 2 year deployment to Afghanistan.
Look, I fixed it! Amazing what these new cleaners can do.
I haven't really done much with it lately. I dumped some denatured alcohol in the tank to see if it would do anything. It didn't. Not much surprise there. The current plan is to give white vinegar and possibly salt a try, then toss a chain in and shake it. I'm hoping I can get away with coating it with some two stroke oil or something similar until I get it back in the van. I know I should probably seal it, but I don't trust myself to get it perfect.
I've been working on my Escalade during the week. I installed 8 new coils and a set of new plug wires. I also have a set of new injectors coming too. It had a strange miss going up hills but it would never throw a code. Running like new with the coils and wires.
You definitely need to post a link to where you purchased that cleaner. I have a 77 Plymouth and could really use a product with that level of restorative ability!

That reminds me. My dad asked me if I could help change the plugs on his highlander. We may end up having to pull the intake for that job.
