Project R53, refresh for my Daughter, rear hatch hinges

Hi New here,

bought a modded 06 R53. Loads of miles but the engine has been taken care of.

it does have rust, of course. And one of the Hatch hinges snapped on me.

I know it’s a T40 on the hatch door, and 13mm on the car, but how the heck do you get that to release? I’ve gone to the junk yard to try and get some, could not get them off with my powered socket.

any tips? Do I need an air powered wrench?

im trying to get this car ready for my kid, she has about a 2 years yet so I figure I have time to work on it and play with it myself till then.

thanks for any tips.

I looked in the Bentley manual. You might be disappointed by what I found:

"With an assistant supporting the hatch, remove screws from hinges and remove hatch."

At least that tells you that there are no tricks or secret incantations. I think ssoliman has the right idea: penetrating oil (I like Aerokroil) and time are your friends.

thanks, I’ll try the oil and a real impact gun. Didn’t expect it to be that tough to remove.
