Rear hatch does not close

I have a R53 with low km on the clock... my rear hatch door sometimes bounces off the trunk lid when closing (i cant see real deformation on the lid)

Is there a workaround for this issue?

Check out this thread here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...elf-fixed.html

May have water in your trunk lid grip. That thread has some good advice for a fix.

I had this issue, and the cause was the hinges were bound up. Took it to a body shop, and they said it was a common issue, and they had fixed several Minis with this problem. Cost $400 to fix mine - they had to replace the hinges. Once fixed, the hatch opened and closed much easier, and also revealed that the gas struts were shot, since they wouldn't hold up the hatch anymore. I bought the OEM struts online for about $20 each.
