2 Quick questions

My R50 is my first Mini and I have no idea what normal operation is.

When I turn the key without starting the engine the power steering pump is loud. I thought it was the blower fan. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? The steering works fine and you can't hear it when the engine is running.

I am dropping the bottom frame to put in control arm bushings and ball joints. I have a new exhaust manifold with a cat coming. Do I drop the old exhaust out the bottom? Would it be easier to install with the bottom frame out?

Thanks in advance!!

The power steering pump can be loud while still working. Even a new one can be a little whinny.

You can install the manifold without taking the subframe out. Both the OBX and the RMW were fitted from under on mine, but it's easier on a lift since you can play a bit more with the angles.

Just about everything is easier with the subframe removed.

Thanks!
I have an exhaust manifold with cat coming and just wondering if it would be better to leave the frame down till it comes in and I can install it and then reinstall the frame. It's just me so the easier the better.
