R50/53 New to me 2003 Mini Journey

I convinced the wife to let me purchase a convertable Mini. She asked me if I was traiding in the black one, I said not on your life. Wife would rather me have a cabrio than a motorcycle. I had to promise to sell my motorcycle, a mild loss but I don't ride it all that often anyway. She gets nervous everytime I say I'm going to ride. I will be calling the dealership tomorrow and see if it's still available.
This is what I am wanting to buy: https://www.neshautosales1.com/vdp/1...catur-GA-30030

Man, is the camera that person used from the 20th century?
Hmm, chrome line. Someone has punched the driver's airbag cover. I wonder what the driver's seat actually looks like? Wish there were engine bay photos, but you'll see that when you look at it. It looks like it's been parked outside a lot. I wonder how the seam under the lower door seal looks.
i bet you can talk them down a bit based on the condition.

Congrats on getting permission for the purchase. You'll love driving an S. When I was looking for an R53, I tried to contact three dealers that had listed online -- none bothered to respond. Like you, I just don't understand. I. choose to view it as they are doing me a favor because if they aren't responsive before the sale, they will be. impossible to contact after.

I bought the car! Well sort of. I ended up putting 500 bucks down till I can get the rest in cash. For some reson they won't run the whole price of the car on my Debit card. I'm sure they charge them a precentage. Anyway I have to get the cash from a local bank and pay the rest tomorrow. So a road trip after work again. Got them down a little but they said it has a new clutch and starter so not really as low as I was hoping but I'm good with it.
A little bit rougher in person than the pictures show. Runs, idles and drives outstanding. The body is in real good shape too but the interior is what needs some freshing up.
I am blown away in the difference between an NA and an S model. I had a grin from ear to ear test driving it.

I guess I need to update my signature!!
The body has no dents but the paint could use a good polish and wax. The stripes are looking a little rough. The carpet is real dirty and the drivers seat bottom is ripped. Missing the speaker cover in the back and the chrome piece on the headlight. The suspension feels really tight but I noticed it does need a serpentine belt, looks like another special tool to order. It's a little rough but nowhere near as bad as the R50 was. Doesn't have heated seats which is a bummer but I might add that later on. It does have a center armrest!! It looks totally factory under the hood, no cold air intake or aftermarket pulleys and thats just fine with me.
While I was test driving the the Mini the wife was looking at an Aston Martin rapide they had on the lot. I did a a VIN search after I got back and it was a theft recovery, 2 TPMS sensors didn't work, some leather on the dash was messed up and the center screen was funky. She wanted that car really bad till we looked it over real good in the end we decided not too get it. I'm looking at a 6 thousand dollar Mini and she is looking at 50 thousand dollar Aston Martin, something is totally wrong with this.

After 2 trips to Atlanta the R50 has a new friend!!
Awesome car, I can see why everyone loves the S model.
There are a few little things I need to look at but overall a super fun ride. It has new tires so it rides really nice. Perfect timing to buy a Cabrio just in time for a winter storm.

Looks really good. I don't think you'll have to replace the taillights this one. Are you planning to do the supercharger service? Mine had no oil in the back reservoir. I'm still a little worried about that but I changed it twice (the second time after a few hundred miles) and am hoping for the best.

The right taillight is missing the clear part. I am looking at one on eBay but might go look at the one in the junkyard that Here2go went too. I also need the rear spearker covers.
The airbag light is on and the resistor has been bypassed, thats the only fault on airbags. Now I need to see if I can get a repair or replacment kit. Might be able to get that at the junyard too.
I am going to go thru it like I did the R50 but it does not need near as much work. Full service with fluids as soon as winter is over. We have light rain fixing to to turn to snow any minute and I don't have a garage to work in. I also need to work on the Escalade ESV since we also traded in my wifes 2019 and bought her this:
The old ladies new ride.
My son in-law thinks I'm crazy. He said: You can buy any car you want, a Corvette, a Tesla, a Escalade ESV but you bought a first Gen Mini Cooper convertable. I said yes I did, I love my 07 ESV and it does ride a lot better then the 2019 Escalade we traded in for the wifes Maserati. I paid cash for it, it is different than most normal cars, I can tow it behind the motohome and I can put my son in the back and I will have a much funner time with the top down with my family than a 2 person corvette.

Both - Beautiful choices I must say!
No offense - but I think I would've chosen the Austin over the Maserati. Although I AM a bit bias.
I just see too may Maseratis' in ATL.....and not enough Austin Martins (my favorite).
Congratulations to both of you - Nice score!!!
Oh BTW; I forgot to tell you -The silver MINI @ the ATL PAP South (Conley), has an Anthracite Armrest. It is missing the top cover BUT is the slide-back version like the one I have. The tops are easily found on Ebay.

I did love the Aston but it already needed stuff fixed and I was worried about the maintence cost. The Masariti is a pain but I have already broken the code on getting oil and filters since we already owned one. Plus I have a friend that works at a Masariti dealership in Orlando, I can get a nice discount on stuff if I go thru him.
The wife is happy and that works for me.
The armrest would work in the R50?

Yes. I believe the armrest, that style, will fit your R50 (or R53 for that matter).
The armrest @ the South PAP/Conley is the "integrated" style like mine pictured below. You'll have to swap out the E-brake console.
If I recall, One of the Mini's @ the East, Lithonia PAP also had a silver trim armrest, missing it's top cover. Although I can't remember if it was a "flip top" (like deepgrey's). Those tops were harder to find.
Although, maybe it wouldn't be too difficult to incorporate a hinge w/an Ebay "slide-top" arm pad to make it work (?????)

I don't think any of the Euro armrests came in silver, so it was probably like the one in your photo (unless someone painted it). IIRC, the center console on the earlier cars didn't have the tray under the handbrake, but I think it will retrofit. I'm sure someone on here has tried.
edit: Ha. @Here2Go did that retrofit, didn't you?

Congratulations on your new cars!
They both look really clean, and the cabrio top still looks to be in great shape.
I noticed your signature has the color as indi blue. Unless the car has been repainted, the color should be hyper blue metallic as indi blue was discontinued after the 2004 model year. If still original, double check the color code label on the side of the passenger strut tower to avoid any paint match issues if it ever needs a touch up. If the label is missing, you can also see all of the build specs and options by running the VIN through an online decoder.

If you hit the junk yard before I do I want one for the R50, The Cabrio already has one! I can PM you a list!! If it wasn't so cold and nasty I'd be hitting one soon.
I have to fix my Escalade before I go crazy on the Cabrio. I have been putting it on the back burner for way too long, now that the 2018 is gone I have to get back on track and finish fixing it.
