Battery light no power steering issue

Just did a head swap and while removing the timing cover had to weld on a bolt in order to remove it.

Car is running fine, through the test mode I can see it charging at 13.7-13.8v while idling. Checked fuse 39 and it was blown and replaced that. Same issue.

I know that a battery fault will cause the power steering to not work. So not suspecting the steering at this point.

I know there's known issues by the exhaust manifold where the harness may rub/burn. I'll check that out. Anything else to look for?

There is a huge fuse under the fuse block that may have blown too. Check that out.

Which fuse block (for other members)? I doubt a main fuse like that would allow the vehicle to run and everything function besides the alternator not charging.

I found the issue however, the short harness from the alternator that connects on the passenger side of the engine was pinched by the engine mount. Fixed now and no longer have charging issues.

Looks like I still have no power steering. No weird noises from pump that I can hear. I know that there's a reservoir for ps fluid and that there's an electric motor for the steering. What fuses if any should I check? Anything else to check?

Sounds like you're producing enough voltage at idle- but I'll tell you our R50 had the power steering go out and a battery light. Voltmeter tested 11.68 at 2000rpm, so I'm replacing the alternator.

Interesting- the car starts just fine, and if I drive it the power steering returns. I guess the alternator is producing juuust enough voltage to get it going at speed, but not at idle.
