Snow report

We have had 2 feet of snow here the last 3 days, and my MC with snow tires has been motoring about with no problems.I have pulled out of my driveway with 8-10 inches of snow behind the car,and it just plows through.Gone to visit friends with regular guy sedans, who have no hope of going anywhere, and Poco just motors along, punches through drifts, and because his belly is so low, makes it easy for everyone else to get through.
When the going gets tough,I turn off the ASC,pushing snow is enough of a drag on things, don't need a computer to tell me how to drive at 15MPH.
Snow does fly up over the bonnet, but folks that I pass in 4x4's give me a big thumbs up when they see me coming
The brakes do tend to get iced up,but a these slow speeds, and so much snow, getting off the throttle tends to be enough to stop. But I have noticed the brakes icing/locking up,after I park .So I make sure I go back and forth a few times using the brakes before shutting down.
Back to the tires,I could not have done this with the all seasons, used them all last winter, and thought they were ok,well they were ok,but the snow tires blow the doors off them.
Unreal traction, great braking, and the car goes where you point it,even hard fast turns, and the car tracks like it is on rails Untill the e-brake comes into play, then it's

You can have all that fun you want, I don't particularly look forward to driving my MINI in that kind of snow . Even though we have been known to receive snow like that I have not had to put my "Pepper" through that, I much rather prefer dry pavement motoring!

Well dry pavement is preferred, but if I don't motor in the snow,I might as well dig myself into a snow drift, and sleep till spring

Good boy Poco! Lot - be careful out there! It's not so fun when you get stuck....those snowplows can pretty much cover a MINI... But seriously, I'm glad to hear your motoring hasn't been disabled by all that white stuff...

Chow!

LOL:smile: If I had the option to "hibernate" I would give it serious consideration. Can't I count that as maternity (paid) leave or something? Think of the resources we would conserve! Wake me up for Spring Training!

Motoring Soon in Chicago (we got CUBS (and Bears (siiiigh), and THEY hibernate don't they?),

I'm jealous! I want Boston to get 2 feet of snow. I don't mind driving in it one bit, even if I do just have the all-seasons! We got 10 inches of powder last week, and I had the best night of sledding in my life. My shoulders and triceps are still a little sore from steering/braking.

SNOW!

SNOW!
I was in Salisbury a week ago shoveling snow at my sister's. Then I came back to L.A. and it's been nothing but rain since then. I'm actually glad the weather has been active here, it's made for some great picture taking opportunities.

Hey Poco....what type of snows are you running? I just got Nokian WRs for my '04 Prius and they're great. I don't take my MCC out in the snow because the thought of it makes me sick. Now if I had a tin top, I'd consider it.

Lot: Also got the snow that you got...LOVE IT! The Mini is FINE IN THE SNOW! My ONLY complaint is that we also have a layer of ice here and that has tripped the damn flat tire monitor because of tire spinning...the thing won't shut off! (Yes, I have checked tire pressure) so until we get a day above thirty that can help the sand and snow melt the ice have to ignore the yellow light!

EVERYBODY: Until you've driven a Mini in the snow you haven't lived! GET UP HERE!

I haven't had too much problems with the snow either! I prefer not to take it out though, unless I have to. it's been in the garage most of the weekend!

We have lots of ice here to,and I get lots of wheel spin, but no tire sensor comes on.Hold the button under the e-brake until the light stops blinking, but stays on,release the button, then press it again, should go out.

Just like it doesn't rain when you do have an umbrella, I put on my Blizzak snow tire package yesterday, and temperature here will be in the 60's today. I guess I am doing my part to keep the weather nice in the DC area.

I have some hubcaps to put on, but I left the black wheels exposed for a interesting sport compact look .

Since my girlfriend is claiming my Durango for winter use, I 'm waiting to find out how the new snow tires will do. Sounds pretty encouraging from your description.

Thanks for the advice Lot.
FYI 2005 reset button has moved from under e brake to beside by passenger seat..I know you Miniacs LOVE new details! . My flat tire warning light came on constantly instead of blinking which according to the owners manual indicates system failure and that I should call for service. Since I live 5 hrs away from service (Minneapolis=Warr--only two hrs from Winnipeg=non warr) I decided to wait it out. Happy to report that now the light has gone out. I am a bit surprised that the DSC allows so much spinning of wheels before it kicks in. Have to admit though that right now it's an ice rink here and everybody spins...except my wife and her big fancy All Wheel Drive Subaru

freezing rain

I drove last week during freezing rain and as soon I pulled out of the driveway the tire light came on. It didn't go off until the next day running on dry pavement.

I hear we're getting 8-12" here in Chicago too...

I think 5" is the max my beater Civic can handle at one time.

Good to know. I'm selling my Escape when the Mini comes in with the plan to get snow tires next year. My girlfriend and I do a lot of snowboarding and cross a few storms here and there. Good thing New Mexico doesn't get the snow like some of the other states do.

Just got back from VT. On the way up last week, they closed I-89 right behind us b/c of ice. We made it through unscathed and also plowed through 6 inches of snow at the mountain!
