R50/53 Brake caliper repair kit question
Brake caliper repair kit question
I picked up a pair of R56 front calipers and I'm in the process of cleaning them up before I put them on my car. I tore one of the dust boots, and I figured I may as well replace the seal and dust boot on both of them. I've never done it before, but it doesn't seem to complicated. I'm looking at rebuild kits for the calipers though and I'm finding a pretty wide range of prices for the seal and dust boot.
I found them on FCP euro for $25
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/clo...er-34116769277
and on rock auto for between $1.40 and $4.00
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...epair+kit,1720
TRW is the manufacturer of the caliper, but I have a hard time imagining that they're worth $20 more or 6 times more expensive. That said, I'm not looking to cut corners on something as important as the brakes, nor do I really want to have to rebuild these again because a seal fails.
Anybody have any experience with this? any thoughts on if raybestos, ac delco, centric, or doorman make a reasonably reliable seal?
