I bought the shifter and cables/ the 2 engine mounts and other stuff from them and high quality.

Here is the part number for the 5 speed: 23007533349

You can use a 6 speed but you will need to change the flywheel and starter, along with everything I mentioned before. I believe the S 6 speed clutch is a little bigger and has a different tooth count.

What do you think about the 6speed? I will be driving this on the highway a fair bit. I don't mind changing out the clutch, flywheel and the starter, it's all been approved by the Boss Lady! lol

The best way to go is with the 6speed swap. The gearing is actually very well matched to the non-supercharged motor. It's also more stout than the 5speed - not a lot of ether have failed but the 6speed is essentially as bullet proof as they get. If you are good with changing out the clutch/flywheel and starter - go with the 6speed.

I usually wish I had the six speed when I'm on the interstate. The facelift R50 spins nearly 4 grand at 80 mph.

I would do the 6 speed if you got the OK from the boss. It would be a lot better suited for the highway.
With the Getrag 5 speed that I just put in the R50 at 62 MPH I'm turning right at 3 grand. With the 6 speed in the Cabrio S going 62 it's turning 2500ish.

I swapped in a getrag 5 spd and much prefer it to the earlier 6 spd from an S in a previous swap. Gear is nice and I don't mind 4K esp with decent acceleration in 5th. Cheers, Ron

What I used and have to replace:
Both CV axles
The shifter box and cables
Transmission mount on the transmission
The aluminum trans mount on the car
Clutch pipe
Slave cylinder
The dust plate is different
Flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and release bearing.

There is no transmission noise now and it's great!

Heeelllpp payed. "mechanic to swap the gearbox from a facelift 05plate into a prefacelift 04 which i assumed where different first being midland in the pre so anyway they did the work which took 3 days 🤷‍♂️ then the osf drive shaft popped out while driving so did that he said a clip on the shaft had come off and now a month on all I hear is the only way to describe is a light metal on metal scraping grinding but only when the wheels are straight or turning left I have now changed the osf Hun and bearing and it's still there shall I change nsf too ?

ChiefM- when you did the Getrag 5spd for the Midlands box, how did you go about ordering the parts? Did you order for a R52 non S car?
thanks

For those of you (like me now) who have put in a later model Getrag in their R50 to replace the Midlands, what are your engine revs at 70 mph in 6th? Mine is revving at 3k and I feel that is a little high compared to the Midlands but I could be wrong. Everything is mechanical about that connection between the engine and the gearbox so I don't know what could be different or changed but I still feel like it's a little high.

i didn’t have the Midlands 5 speed but
had the Gerry 5 speed. Going to the 6 speed shaved 500 revs in high gear. 70mph used to be 3.5K rpm, now 3k.
