R50/53 Has anyone noticed beside myself?
Tossing a '92 lexus with almost 200k miles. Keeping the mint '90 miata with aroudn 45k miles. I can't wait to see the MCS and the miata parked next to each other in the "two-car" garage. I'm convinced I can fit at least one more MINI in there!
The MINI will be her daily commuter, instead of a '98 Maxima, which has been a rock solid and reasonably fun car to drive.
The Maxima's geting handed down to our daughter in college, so the MINI is replacing her current car, an ancient, boring Mazda 626.

I didn't give up anything - just finally parked for good my '71 Vega GT. Don't laugh - Buick 215 cu in aluminum block V8, Muncie 4 sp, narrowed rear-end. Weighed 55 lbs less than stock, looked like crap but ran very well. Suspension mods made it handle ok, but oh what a thrill straight-line. Looked stock - almost - and made a whole lot of drivers of some very expensive cars feel very blue. But the MCS is much more fun.
I was in an accident and the girl totaled my crappy 99 Plymouth Breeze. I was planning on buying a MINI this year sometime. This just gave me an excuse to buy sooner. Everything happens for a reason!!
>>How many people claimed they gave up their big dollar - high performance cars to own a MINI.

Not really high performance but 24 hours prior to giving deposit for our MINI, I had cash in hand to put down for a new Honda Pilot
Now a devout MINIac, LET THE SUV BACKLASH BEGIN!!

My wife center-punched a telephone pole, flew across a 10ft. ditch, took out a chain link fence and ended up in the middle of a plowed field. She totalled our Chrysler LHS so I was able to buy LTL YELO. She was unhurt mentally and physically. I couldn't say the same for the LHS.
I gave up my smog-blowing Jetta TDI with Upsolute chip (195 ft lbs of torque) and other performance mods. It was kind of like putting running shoes on a fat lady, no matter what I did she still wasn't fast, so I traded her in for a real performace car.
We gave up an extremely boring but very reliable '97 Mercury Tracer LS sedan four our current '02 MINI Cooper CVT. Both cars are rated at 115HP (1.6L vs 2.0L) (Even power exchange) but the MINI feels faster and more powerful. Actually the Tracer is 100 pounds heavier than the Cooper is. Very happy with our choice!.
A little bit later on this year I might be giving up my 2001 Chevy Impala LS (3.8L V6 200HP) for another brand new Cooper CVT or maybe a Cooper 'S' if I like it after taking a test drive.
We are planning on starting a new family, yet we are letting go of our 2 four door cars for 2 MINIs...are we crazy?????

Selling the other family Honda Accord sedan to get the MINI.
I think we're going backwards: no kids-sporty car, Have kids-family 4-door car but the MINI screams FUN. WHEEEEEE!!

Gave up a 'hot rod honda'... 92 Accord coupe w/95 Prelude VTEC motor. It was quicker than the MCS (high 14's 1/4 mile), but not nearly as much fun! (Although I still kinda miss VTEC kicking in at 5K). Plus it was way outclassed in auto-x. The MCS should put me in a much better position.
Lets see, the owners wife of MINI of Concord gave up her BMW for the MINI. I was talking to a customer at that same location who was giving up his Audi TT convert to get one of these and when I was home at X-mas in Orange County I stopped by the Santa Ana dealership and a guy traded in his new H2 for a MINI. If anyone wants a H2 they have one for sale at Crevier.
The last high performance car I had was a '67 Austin Healey Sprite when I was 18. My MINI is the most high performance car that I have then had in 16 years
...but I'm still saving for my 'tek!

I finally gave up my q-ship. I had a 914-6 with a late model Carrera motor with Motronic fuel injection, and other mods that brought the horsepower to 274. That might not sound like much, but it weighed a whopping 1900 lbs.
It also had big four piston Brembos, fully adjustable suspension, trick gears, a Quaife, and all kinds of other trick mods.
Here's the kicker: it looked totally stock form the outside. No big fenders or wild wheels.
