R50/53 Strange Lights/Codes
Strange Lights/Codes
Hey Guys, Scarlet was sitting for most of the winter due in part to a bad fuel pump. I changed the fuel pump and started driving, the car sounded like I just put headers on, thought that I had a bad exhaust manifold. I starting removing the bolts at the cat side and then it separated into two pieces. Got another manifold and cat from a NAM user, worked great. Drove the crap out of the car just to make sure all was well, it seemed to be. Took the car out the next day drove about 10 miles and engine light and traction control light came on. Took the car back home. Pulled out the scanner which said that Cylinder 1 was misfiring. Checked the plugs, cleaned and swapped them, same problem, got some new wires, same problem. Right now I'm thinking it's the fuel injector. Has anyone seen the issue where the Traction Control light comes on with the scanner stating #1 Cylinder is misfiring?
Car hasn't been used much, has it?
Try turning the Traction Control / ASC / DSC off & see if it makes any difference.
I think I'd clean the grounds & battery terminals & then take it for a good long run.

That's the first think I tried, turning it off. Doesn't explain why it comes on with the P0301 code #1 Cylinder Misfire. I changed the Plugs and Wires, any other ideas?
PS: I don't think you'd want to take your car for a long run with the Service Engine light flashing..

You can swap your fuel injector to another cylinder and clear the code then see if the error follows the injector.
Of course before pulling the injector make sure the fuel injector is connector is seated.
I'm not 100% positive but if my memory serves me, I'm pretty sure the Service Engine Soon (SES) light only indicates minor issues with the control computers.
here is a link to the SAE pop quiz about it...

Best of luck.

That's a pretty good article. I just ordered a Fuel Injector, I was going to swap to another cylinder but I didn't want to do the procedure twice. The Service light stays on until I clear it, when I drive it harder it begins to flash. This used to happen in my Expedition when it was time to replace a Coil Pack, those were separate coils for each cylinders. Since the mini has a single unit, what would be the likelihood of one of the coil connections being bad?
