Changing CVT Transmission OIL - OEM or Other?

I know BMW recommends the OEM one but it can only be bought at a dealer and the cost is $28 per liter. I was wondering if anyone used the Ravenol, Febi, Motul, or any of the others out there and if they've lasted just as long or longer? Will the performance be improved with a different oil? Will it make it more reliable? Most of these oils are about half the price.

I used Red Line CVT fluid in my daughter's R50 and couldn't tell the difference in performance between it and the original MINI fluid. For the next change, I plan on using AMSOIL CVT fluid. I use AMSOIL for all of my vehicles when possible as I believe they are one of the best in the business. At the time I originally changed the fluid, AMSOIL did not manufacture CVT fluid.
