does not work on mine...

...I am refering to the toggle up convenience opening (the key remote works fine for me). Any 05s out there that has the same problem? The manual does not indicate that this (main lock switch conveniece opening) in a programmable option so I thought it should just work for everyone. Just to make sure, I am referring to holding the main locking switch up (even for a long time) and having the sunroof and both windows open. Does not work on mine...help .

Where was this thread a 1 1/2 years ago? I always enjoyed that feature on my 03 MCS then the dealer updated the software and it disappeared. Repeated trips back to the dealer for maintainance or what not, I always asked about getting this feature back. They looked at me like I was an idiot because I asked for something that isn't a feature in their opinion. I was never able to get it programmed back even after showing them a MA's car that had it. Of all the times with the MINI and going to MINI of Nashville, this is the only thing that honestly pi##ed me off at them.

Sorry. Had to rant a bit as it was one of my favorite features and they screwed it up and were not able to fix it nor did they care if it was fixed.

To make it work, turn on the ignition with the doors closed. Hold the lock switch up for 5 seconds and all will open.

So, if you want this feature, don't go to MINI of Nashville looking for programming.

Just went to the dealer to address this non-working feature on my Aug. 05 build and they believe this feature is gone. They will double check for me and asked that I call them back in two weeks. I will update thread as I learn more.

it's gone. I asked about it for my 05 two months ago and was told it's no longer available

You also can put your key in the driver's side door lock, turn it to the right and hold it and all the windows and top will close and the doors will lock. But I guess you already knew that.

does anyone know whether you can program in an "all up" function by holding the button in the locking position that would have the same effect as turning the key in the lock and holding it so all the windows/sunroof close?

The "all up" feature does not exist for safety reasons, at least that's what I was told by my dealer. They don't want you closing the windows from a remote location in case someone's head is sticking out. An alternative, insert your key in the driver's door, turn to lock and leave it turned. The windows will close.

I hope you wiped first.

Also, I'm sad to see that it was discontinued for '05. I pick up my '05 tomorrow and thought this sounded like a cool trick. German Bastards.

So I double-checked my manual. On p.28 is the description of convenience opening using the unlock/lock toggle. However, my Aug '05 build doesn't seem to function that way.

My wife's June '05 build does.

Both vehicles picked up from the same dealer, so presumably similar programming options set-up (everything else is the same).

Of course, even while you're in your car you can use the button on the key to lower the windows/open the sunroof.

Its a programmable function. But as I understand they will only open and not close. Unlock the car by pressing unlock twice (so all doors are unlocked) then hold the unlock for 3 seconds.

Still no go with an Aug '05 build (hitting it 2x, 3x, or more and holding it for a long, long time). Also, pushing the key remote does not work when key is in ignition, which is typically when I was hoping to use the convenience feature, e.g. at the traffic light or while driving. Such a hassle to have to hit three different buttons to get complete fresh air. I just think some of you are so fortunate to have this feature:smile: .

Call you dealer. It should be something they can program for you for free.
If you want your windows to go up easily from inside. Get Ian's Auto-up circuit.

Works on my '04 MCS, but....

I timed my self with my hand starting on the gear shift **** and it takes 3 seconds for me to reach forward and hit the driver side toggle, passenger side and then the sunroof. All open fully with out holding the switches. Holding the lock button takes 4 seconds. I like hitting all those buttons and it's one second faster

I just picked up my MCSC this morning and was told that I could get it programmed if I was ever back in Germany with it or in the States. The Italian BMW dealership doesn't program that. Oh well...I just have to hold down the Roof button and everything goes down.

Just for reference. This option does not work on 06s. I'm kinda bummed. Oh well I have to hit 3 switches. Unless someone else knows otherwise.

Yeah if you look in the manual you have i bet its like mine and was printed in 2005. The remote works for the opening but not the unlock switch. I had my MA and the the service people look into this and they said for 2006 it is disabled. If anyone can make it work give us a post.

Just tried it on my '05 and it works. Not too sure if I will do it all the time, you have to hold it. I like pressing all three buttons one time and they open by themselves.

Windows\top down works from the fob in my '06. The doors have to be unlocked though.

For example, when I leave work and it's 95F outside, I approach my car, watch the lights blink for press #1, then release the button. I press again and the doors unlock, again releasing. Finally, I press unlock and hold. After about 6 seconds the windows and "sunroof" option of the convertible top go. After they are finished, I have to release the button and press again for 6 seconds before the top drops to the proper 95F driving position.

I had a lot of frustration until I figured that out. Fortunattely all my frustration time was in January and February when I had no business driving with the top down.

Okay, maybe a little business, it did get to 48F a couple of days in February.

I asked to have this option enabled, but I realized after I drove away from the dealer that it was not. I haven't been back since because I'm a long way off, but Rassmusen MINI said they'll activate it next time I'm up there. Ask your local dealer. They should be able to help you out.
