R53 possible chip/security kssue
hey everyone. So I picked up a second mini that I was go to use for parts for my project. Car seems to be pretty clean but it won’t start. Charged the battery and hooked it up to a jump starter, put the key in, turn to on, hear the fuel pump, turn to start but I hear nothing. No clicks, no dimming of lights, etc. I swapped out the clutch switch from my other car which I know works, but still the exact same issue. How can I tell if it is the immobilized or something security-wise stopping the car from starting? I’ve read they can de-program after a period of time. Car has 120k on it. Previous owner said for a while he was able to start it intermittently than it stopped. He replaced the starter but still an issue and assumed he got a bad remanufactured starter and gave up. Thoughts? Thanks!

When you say "won't start", does this mean "will not crank over", or "will crank over but will not fire"?
A bad immobilzer will cause the car to not fire off, but it won't stop the car from "cranking over"
Mine was out of sync, causing no spark to the plugs and no injector pulses at the injectors. The car cranked over just fine

A bad immobilzer will still let the car crank over. First thing I would check is all the fuses in both fuse boxes. Then I would try to check for power at the solenoid start wire with a test light to see if you have power there or not
You will probably have to find a helper to try to start the car when you have your test light on the starter terminal. You also may have a bad starter as well

Do you hear any clicking sound when you turn meybto start? If you hear nothing at all you either have a bad starter solenoid or no power to starter. Start by checking the power to the starter leads when in crank position. Will take two people or you can make a test light by wiring 12v light bulb to the hot wire on the starter and ground. If the bulb lights up when in crank then it’s getting power. If no power check the ignition switch.
