R50/53 More Scan Tool Questions
More Scan Tool Questions
I have looked at so many posts about P2096 codes my head is going to be explode. Can anyone tell me with confidence that they were able to clear this hard code without going to the stealer-ship. If you cleared it what scan tool was used. Thanks
Did use a generic OBD tool to read /erase to no avail. Replaced upstream O2 sensor after triple checking for vacuum leaks, faulty MAP sensors, and exhaust leaks.
After replacing the O2 sensor, it took about 3 days of drive cycles and P2096 was gone for good.
edit: if your car has the original sensors, it could not hurt to replace them. If not mileage, age can make the sensor suspect.

The code came on 6 months ago and went off after a week. Returned a few weeks later. I have monitored the O2 sensor voltage for the upstream and down stream. When the car is up to temp the upstream voltages oscillates from .1 to .9 volts but the downstream voltage is mostly flatline. It does fluctuate once in a while
That’s pretty consistent with what the two sensors should be doing. Upstream fluctuations correspond to fuel trim adjustment. Downstream is less active. Essentially, same as what I’m seeing on my kid’s R53 and my BMW E46.
Not sure if you saw this site. Some troubleshooting for. P2096:
