Has any one else had a problem with there doors. After I unlock the doors, I pull in the release on the inside of the handle and nothing happens, sometimes it will open other times it won't and I have to climb through the passanger's side. It's happened three times now. One I played with the locks from the inside and it opened again but that only worked once. That's the only problem, when this happens it won't open from the inside either.

I ended having to leave a mesage for the service dept at my dealer twice, and still no call back after 6 days, I'm getting very frustrated. Help

 

I've repaired this on a couple different MINI's. It is usually 1 of two things. One thing I've seen happen is the cable stretched or the cable housing would get damaged on the ends. This makes it so the cable has to be pulled more to get the door to open. The problem is the door handle only goes so far and doesn't pull the cable enough. The other thing I've seen go wrong is the door lock actuator assembly wears internally so the lever that the cable pulls doesn't move enough to release the spring on the door latch. The actuator is the more likely cause I saw more of them go bad. If this does happen in the meantime, just roll down the window and try the handle from out side. If that doesn't work it is def. the actuator. Let me know if you have any other questions.

 

Thanks. When this happens I can't open from inside or out. I first noticed when trying to get in one day (while it was raining of course) then when I tried to get out it wouldn't open.

 

When I pull in the handle on the outside, it gets stuck in that postiona and stays there, and the dorr still won't open.

 

I just wanted to mention just in case anyone else had this problem. I think it had to do with the cold, since I moved to AZ almost two months ago, no problems with the door anymore.
