new rims --> do i need to replace valve stems?

Hey All,

Can't seem to find a straight answer here. I have an '06 r53 JCW and bought some new 17" rims to replace my s-lites. I replaced tires last year so I'm just going to swap rims and use the same tires that are on the car now. I need new valve stems right? Is there a specific part given the TPMS or is that not related to the stem itself? Thanks!

-Matt

Valve stems didn't come with the new wheels?
TPMS is calculated by wheel speed not pressures on the R53's

Just for clarity, you only need standard valve stems.
As MINI33342 said, the TPMS on R53's works from sensors on the hub & axle, not inside the tire.

Yeap! I was going to add it is a false economy not to replace them when ever you break a tire off a wheel. Most valve stems should only run about $2.00 each when a Tire Installer buys them in bulk. Metal Valve Stems can run a hefty bit more but you have to understand that you should still replace them. Plus you have other issues with metal, the most obvious is the reaction of dissimilar metals over time this chemical reaction can cause issues.

Motor On!
