How difficult is it to replace a motor mount?
Since having traded in my R53 (see signature), I have mourned its loss ever since.
Now, there's an R53 for sale on my local Facebook neighborhood Buy/Sell/Trade, for only $3,500. It needs three of four motor mounts replaced. They've replaced one.
I've never dealt with motor mounts, but I've always assumed that the engine needs to be hoisted out of the bay to do it. Is this the case?

If I remember correctly, ...
The upper and lower ones are pretty easy. Need to support engine with a jack for the lower one.
The passenger (transmission) mount requires taking some stuff over the area and lifting that end up. The engine side one (the one that is filled with hydraulic fluid and is prone
to leaking and self destructing) needs a female torx socket and lifting the engine up
some on that side.
Here's a how to from Pelican Parts for the hydraulic one:

The original upper RH motor mount died on our 06 R53 last week and I had one of the two best indie MINI techs in the area replace it in 30 minutes. It was quite apparent that previous experience and the right equipment, especially a lift, was the key. I would not even have considered DIYing this project for the $47.00 they charged me for labor and a competitive price on an oem mount. Sometimes it is worth having a professional MINI tech make life easier. Good luck.
