Recommended Mini Transmission Specialist

After two separate diagnoses, I'm facing replacement of the agitronic automatic transmission in my 2005 Mini Cooper S. I could take it to the Mini dealer here in town, but I'd like to know if there are any shops in the Mid-Atlantic region that specialize in Mini Cooper transmissions? I've found two shops here in Richmond, Virginia that have decent reviews, but I'm willing to drive to another state if I know I'm working with people who work on Mini's every day.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Everett

How mechanically inclined are you? Around here you can get an auto tranny for about $300-400 used. It would be like a clutch job, except you just replace the whole unit. Otherwise, I've used andrewtech for a built subie tranny in the past. I believe they are mid-atlantic.

Rupnok, thanks for the quick reply. I'm pretty handy... used to be a mechanic. I'm sure I could replace the transmission myself if I really wanted to, but after a few days of searching I have not been able to find a used transmission for under $1500 and remanufactured units are starting around $3000. The agitronic automatic transmission is apparently an expensive model.

Do you have a part number? I thought all S auto trannys were agitronic.

Here is one from a pretty reputable ebay seller for under $1500, even says to make a reasonable offer.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-2006-m...NZzvFb&vxp=mtr

Thanks for the link. I'll consider it. Since they don't ship it may not work out in my favor.

Any chance you can provide suggestions for a shop in the Mid-Atlantic area? I just want to make sure I vet all of my options before going down a specific path.

Thanks again!

I take it that you are in VA. NJ isn't too far away, is it? The tranny has been listed before on ebay with no bites. I'd offer $700 and make the drive, but that is me. Like I suggested before, Andrewtech is the only shop that I have had experience with. Really any reputable transmission shop should be able to take care of your problems.
