R50/53 Can I mod my mini before end of break-in period?
I will be finally getting my MCS at the end of december back in texas when I am seeing family, and I wanted to swing by BMP for an exhaust and intake system. Problem is it will be only a few hundred miles into my break-in period. Then shortly after that I have to drive back to school in california. Would it be bad to mod my car before the end of the break in period? Only reason why I ask is it would be nice to have BMP do all the work on my car, and would also save me shipping cost out to CA. Any suggestions or comments?

I know this isn't an MCS but just for reference...On my WRX, I'm going to buy either a 280 or 320hp mod package from a reputable national tuner who actually warranties the work for 1 year/12k miles, and they don't recommend putting in the mods until after 5k miles. Hope that helps...

It's not recommended that you mod before the break-in. That period is there for the engine to learn, settle in, go through changes such as gears, temp, etc. So it's best to leave her stock until that period is over. Besides, you can't really put that intake to a lot of use for you if you're following your break-in period guidlines(not over revving, kkeping your speed reasonable). Being that it's just an intake, it's not really that much to interfere with the break-in. But I'd still wait. Have all the fun you want afterwards.
Cheers,
Cheers,
I would wait. One of the key issues is bang for buck, right? Well, most of the exhausts available don't make additional horsepower below 4000RPM - and the intake is minimal below 4K also. If you can't FEEL a difference, it could be dissappointing to make the investment.
Does BMP have anything in stock again? Last time I checked they still didn't have either the intake or the exhaust. If you do decide to go the BMP route, I would love to hear your subjective opinions on the system, and pics would be bonus!
Check out the Quicksilver system at MINI-Madness also. They just made video and sound available, and the horsepower numbers match closely the Borla claims. It is a little more expensive, but it sounds like it may be a little throatier (that could be the parking garage though

I suggest you spend the holiday driving back and forth between Austin and OK City - Stop by BMP after you hit the break in period and then motor back to CA. Forget the family -spend the holiday with your new true love
