R50/53 2 Recalls Same Day
Just got mine -- December 02 build.
I'm approaching it this way:
The first time I had my software upgraded, it was to fix a noticeable problem (cold start). This led to another problem (stumble). Since this upgrade is meant to repair a non-noticeable (yet) problem, I am employing (unabashedly) my faulty logic that it will either NOT create any further problems OR it will create only another unnoticeable problem...

Both of us had our recalls done this week. Had to take mine in for a burnt out drivers Xenon under warranty. "these things have been reported" I was told.
Hers 02 June build, His 02 Aug build.
I had already had the breather hose replaced so mine was the "emission fix". The service advisor told me it also fixed the "cold start" problem. ( which i only experience 1-2 times EVER, but I really don't drive the car in the deepest, darkest, snowy/icey days of winter). Wife's S has never had "cold start" issues EVER, (no true winter driving either), but her breatherhose was soft and oily. So we got it all done and no noticible (-)changes.
Mine seems to run a bit smoother and more responsive, also less "bog". {bog= punch it at idle and a noticible hesitation in throttle response. } Could this all be a Hallucination? Don't know, dont care. Also just last week got diff lightwt rims and ditched the run-bricks so this could be effecting my judgement as well with smoothness and responsiveness. I dunno? Wife hasn't noticed any changes at all.
The good thing, they filled up the gas on both cars for the "recall inconvience" so take ur car in on fumes.
I also got a replacement rear boot internal cover under warranty as the housing for the rear wiper was starting to hit it and interfere with boot closure. They told me this was a know problem with the earlier MINIs and easily replaced with a "newer" designed one.
All in all, the jury is still out, but no noticible negative outcomes from the recalls.

I still have the original ECU s/w and subscribe to the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"...
by PCV hose was replaced last year as it was collapsing under load...my tech knew right away what it was...no big deal...15 minutes.
