To introduce myself, I was born BM (before Mini), The year Elizabeth was coronated Queen. I finally got my IB/W MCS last weekend and have been driving it nonstop in our beautiful 80 degree SoCal weather since.

Anyway,
I was sitting in a mall parking lot listening to the radio while my daughter was getting her hair cut when an older lady pulls up next to me. The lady probably in her late 70's and by her accent, English. We have a long conversation as she tells me how much she likes my Mini and how much nicer and roomier it was than the Mini she had back in the 60's. She then goes on to tell stories of how much fun she had in her Mini back then. She then leaves and goes to the store.

About 15 Minutes later another lady, younger this time, maybe 65 comes over to me and I had to give her a total tour of my Mini. She "Just loves It" and goes on to tell me how much fun she had driving her son's GTI and would like to get a Mini.

While I'm talking to the second lady the first returns. She looks at me talking to the second lady smiles and says,

" Looks like you have a Chick Magnet"

I guess I do

That is the wonderful thing about the MINI. It transcends age, gender, sexual preference, ethnicity, and any other way we humans have found to separate, divide, and exclude our fellow humans. Babies, scary-looking bikers, and little old ladies all love this car.

Who would have ever thought that a German designed car built in a classic British style in England would look great with an American Flag on top of it?

A comparable American Ford Focus, built in Mexico, would look nothing but ridiculous sporting a British flag on the roof.

We truly are experiencing a revolution in the automobile and car enthusiast scene, the likes of which have never been seen before.

I expect my car to also be a "chick magnet", and it tickles me that the same car that will turn on the ladies of my generation is also turning on little old ladies around the world.

Eh, if your friends say its gay, then their obviously insecure with their own sexuality. lol. The buyer ration is, what 70% male? Oh well! Anyways, it IS a chick magnet... its fun driving through campus everyday and having at LEAST 20 girls stop, point and stare. Even the guys look jealous. And jealous they should be. Mwahahaha! I'm so conceited.

if your friends constantly ridicule the things you love and cherish, get new friends.

I'll vouch for the chick magnet status...I'm driving to lunch near my office in Costa Mesa, CA (near Newport Beach), and a DS/B MCS with Oregon plates was stopped, and a girl in a Honda (I think) was talking to them through the window at the stoplight. pretty strong stuff that MINI...

Hell, the things are just Magnets... people magnets, bug magnets, break dust magnets...

but one of my co-workers likes to call it a Clown Car once and a while.. one night on break I semi-called her out on it, saying "Gee, you didn't seem to think it was a clown car when you were in it when we made a run for food.. I think I recall you going faster! faster!", to which she replied, "Well, it's a fast clown car, but it's still a clown car" and then I reminder her on how she thought a purple one would look cool (which it would, if you ask me, not a color such a manly man like myself would drive, mind you) and she just kind of mumbled something, and the conversation changed to something else... heh heh.. and btw, she has a grand am, and is a huge NASCAR fan...

(ugg, driving in circles...)

Don't let the opinions of the narrow minded get you down. I really like the Cooper, especially the S, and I own one of the most stereotyped cars ever, a Corvette (White '95 Convertible). I want a Cooper S. Regardless of what anyone says about your car, it is gratifying to own a car that people react to. The Cooper is one of those icon type cars that will always ellicit a reaction, be it negative, positive, mirth, or envy. That, to me is but one more factor that would make owning one a rewarding experience. Those that call it "gay" are not true enthusiasts. A true enthusiast appreciates a variety of cars based on their strengths, engineering, performance, and styling. Me, there is a model or two from just about every manufacturer that I would own if I could afford to. If everyone liked the same thing it would be a boring automotive world. So don't let the narrow minded idiots get you down with their one track automotive thinking.

As for being a chick magnet, with regard to styling the Cooper has that hip, mod, cute Brit look that is the rage currently. It is more of a "chick magnet" than any of the other powerful purpose built sports cars, IMHO.

Cars I would like to have: 2003 MINI Cooper S, 2003 Mustang Cobra, Mid 90's Toyota Supra TT, 2003 Dodge Viper... Ah if only...

>>hah, chick magnet...
>>
>>speaking of which, all my friends pretty much hate the mini since the day i revealed the fact that i'm getting one next year... i presume they're just jealous or something like that, considering they make the dumbest comments about the car and just go on about how "gay" it is, and all those other immature profanities. (go figure)

My experience is that I am attracting a younger woman these days due to the MINI. Maybe they think I am hipper or something........getting stopped in parking lots by women aged 20-35 versus 35-45. I am 48 and happily married, but it is always nice to chat.......flirt, etc........now, if I was single............the buffet line would be open............due to MINI magnetism !!!!!!

Gerbs, the story was 100% true. The small cut I obtained was from one of the windows that smashed. I am having trouble sending people the picture I have. Once I have been sent all the pix I will post them some where.
L.Mini, you go girl!

I forgot to mention VW new beetle H.O. Turbo in my wish list, and also 2003 50th anniv. ed. Corvette convertible. Yep, my automotive tastes are a bit eclectic. (note no SUV's in the wish list )
