Wow! I did 1200 miles solo in a Miata. Houston to ABQ, NM. Keep in mind you can go 100 mph across Texas on I10 though. When I got there in the middle of the night I was seeing Aztec temples and hot fajita plates. Not sure if that was the town or me.

(And...) My wife and I did New Jersy to New Mexico in two days! We only made it to Mephis the first day. It is strange how far you can drive when you have to be at work on Monday morning.

On last year's roadtrip, I left Fort Walton Beachon Monday morning, about 7:30 AM and arrived in Los Angeles on Wednesday evening at 7 PM. I stopped the first night in Houston, stayed with Cat in Houston, a MINI friend from Roadfly. Stayed in Las Cruces, NM on Tuesday night, and drove home from there the next day. And once I hit Arizona, outside Phoenix, it was 100+ degrees until well past Palm Springs, CA. In fact, it was 116 in Palm Springs and Wanda was awesome, a/c on all the way, too!

But you know the good thing about it is that about half of it will be right along the beaches of Hawaii

Guess I shouldn't have linked that PIC

If you find Waialua on the north end of the island and follow the shore clear around to SE corner where H-1 starts, that strech of road is almost all beach/shore

Oh and you can't go clear around the island because the road at Kaena Pt. doesnt actually go all the way around (North-West corner) unless you have a pretty good off road vehicle, and as much as I love the MINI i just don't see that happening.

Oh god... SO FUN!!!

I think that, someday, Clo and I should unite for either a Caravan or a single MINI oddesy -- the car(s) would be full of shoes!

My longest day of motoring was from Coos Bay, OR to San Fransisco to pick up my mum at the airport -- I kept getting stuck behind minivans doing the speed limit on rt.1. Took me almost 15 hours.

Our first trip out of Tampa FL was to the Euor auto festival in 2002 at the BMW plant in Greenville SC. The MINI was the star that year. Left from there and drove the Dragon alone then home.
03 we went to Pikes Peek, Yellow Stone, Grand Titons, Glacier National Park, Bad Lands and Devils tower and back.
04 we went to Carlsbad cavern, Grand canyon N & S rims, Zion, Capital Reef, Brice, Mesa Verde and Arches national parks.
I'm now have 108,000 miles on my 02 S.
Next year Florida to Maine and back.

OK as long as they are red in color

Yep. Got stuck in slow traffic along this same stretch just ten days ago. Beautiful coastline, but too many small towns in between which slows down traffic.

We picked up our MCS in Portland, OR and drove home to Detroit. 5761 miles in 18 days. (Yes, we took the scenic route!)

Actually, I guess it was 5752 miles, when you discount the miles that were already on the odometer

Chris,

I can appreciate that. LA-Lubbock (~1200mi) and back over a long weekend solo. I was mainitaining 85-90 on I40 for hours at a time.

My only question, are the overpasses in ABQ really bright teal and tan colored or was I seeing things there too?

delivery road trip still my longest

I picked up my MCS at Westchester MINI in Elmsford, NY two years ago, and drove home to LA via Tennessee and Rte. 40 all the way across to Flagstaff, down to Phoenix and home on the 10...3105 miles in seven days, four 8-10 hour days and three shorter ones. Loved it....this summer I've done some shorter trips: Vegas, Yosemite, Big Sur (highway 1 !!!) and Kern river. Love the MINI on the highway....Bruce in Santa Monica

vegas baby!

OK, I know no one's posted on this thread in a couple years, but I can't believe there aren't stories out there... I found it (yes, i did a *gasp* search), looking for the longest road trip, cause I put the gekko to it's most brutal conditions so far, and it has come through in the... ...clutch.

I just took a trip from Oregon to Vegas by way of 395, down by MONO lake,
Death valley, and through the desert. On the way there we took three days of 6-hour jaunts. No problem. But on the way back I was flying solo, so I left Vegas at 10:30am and drove 842 miles all the way home in 14 hours. OK, not incredible, but I was amazed at how the gekko performed, considering it was in triple-digit temperatures almost the whole way, and I was not fatigued except for the usual I've-been-driving-for-a-freakin'-long-time daze. I mean, it felt like an easy drive.

By the way, this put the 2-1/2 yr. old gekko at 3750 miles.

I've been more sore in my Pathfinder after 6 hours.

Nice job, 05JCWS!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Sweet, sweet MINI.
So, what are the longest hours y'all have done at a stretch?

Wow, this is an old post... from waaaay back in 04.

I am planning a road trip as soon as I get my Mini if everything works out right. My old roommate is getting married on August 5th in St Petersburg, FL and if everything works out as I am hoping it will, I will be leaving Friday morning, going to the wedding and reception Saturday, and heading back to NC on Sunday.... we'll see how it works out.

The short way is about 675 miles in each direction, but I plan on taking back roads as much as possible. Since I will be breaking my Mini in over a 3 day period, I want to make sure I do it as the manual says, so no long 70mph stints on the highway. :-)

Wow some of you did great trips!!

The longest I did with my MINI was Montreal to Miami, twice with my brother. And once alone. It's a 2500kms trip, so 5000kms in total each time.

Well, there will be some long ones in the future for "Gromit" when he arrives. I did a "Cannonball" kind of run once with a friend in my MGB. Sacramento to Indianapolis, and back the same way. It was for an MGB convention at the Speedway. Top down the whole way, including a very cold Nevada night time desert. 4800 miles round trip. Would I do it again? Only if I could be 25 years old again!

When we Picked up Francis we flew to Denver then drove to Seattle.
From there we went to Cannon Beach Oregon then down the caostal Highway and made out way to Los Vegas. Took a day trip to the Grand Canyon and back. From that point I drove Solo back to Denver then made my way to Vancouver B.C, From Vancouver I finaly made my way Home to Fairbanks AK. Total mileage was 10,150 when I pulled into the Driveway.

Just this past Friday I just got back from another roadtrip to Oregon.
From fairbanks to Dawson creek then to Edmonton Alberta from there it was down to Montana over through Idaho then into Washington to Seattle.
Stayed there for a couple days then off to Portland, Drop off Francis to Rassmuson Mini for service. Pick up Francis a week later drive back home by way of Seattle-Vancouver up Route 99 in B.C. then to Dawson Creek and up the Alaska-Canadian Highway.Total mileage for that trip was about 6,000 miles.
Out of the 26,500 miles I have 16,000 have been from Roadtrips.
LET"S MOTOR!!!!!!!

Last September the Wife and I along with Gidget our 8 month old at the time Westie left Winter Springs, Fl. With Katrina just wiping out the bridges on I-10, we headed north to Memphis to catch I-40 west. We headed west to Albuquerque where we turned north on 550 towards Durango Co. We drove up to Silverton and explored some of the ghost towns around Silverton. Then we headed towards Oray which takes you over a 16,000 foot pass. The following day we we rode the train to Silverton and back. The next day after the train ride we drove over to four corners and then up into Utah through Monument Valley. From there we dropped down into Az to Flagstaff to visit the grandkids for a few days. While there we took the grandkids on the train to the grand canyon and back. We also drove down to Sedona to see the red rocks.
It was finnaly time to start heading east again as we dropped down to Phoenix and then east to Safford Az for a couple days to see freinds. From there we headed over to see the MSD plant in El Paso and the following day headed to Austin Texas for a wedding. After the wedding we headed east on I-20 to Jackson Ms and from there southeast to home. 5,500 miles later we were back home. The only place we had problems getting fuel was in Memphis. It was also the highest price paid for fuel at the time. With the air on and cruising at around 3600 rpm we averaged 26 mpg. We actually got our best fuel milage in the mountains of Colorado as we were driving a lot slower and had the air turned off. The Mini gave us no trouble at all. While the Mini was packed pretty full with the pet carrier and all, it was still far more fun cruising in the Mini than if we'd driven the truck.

My longest was a ~3200 mile trip home after picking up the car in Richmond, VA. Surprising it was only a few hundred miles over the Nav calculated distance, given that I had a, uh, unexpected detour into and out of a blizzard in Kansas.

This year, I did my usual cross-country trip with the Dragon as the centerpiece, which is about 6,000 miles with all the motoring I do.

I'll be leaving for a fun "little" jaunt in early October...my first Fall Road Trip! I'm driving Maximusmini's 2006 MCS from Los Angeles to the Dragon via AZ, NM, TX, LA, AL, to FL, then up to Fontana Village through AL, GA, TN to NC = about 2,775 miles.

Of course, I'll deliver Camille (Maximusmini's MCS) to him at the Dragon and will take Amtrak home.
