R50/53 Is the MINI a rattle trap?
I have an '05 MC, and at just 700 miles she's got some little rattle and buzz problems (mostly buzz) starting to show themselves. At first, this car seemed the tightest car I've ever owned, but now...hmmm, I'm not to sure. I've goy a buzz coming from the passenger door sometimes, and from the speedo sometimes, and from the closed sunroof (was ok before), and from the joint between the driver door airbag and the dash...all the time!
I'm not too terribly thrilled about these quirky noises, and I'm hoping some will go away with some time, which one poster mentioned happening with their car, at least to a degree. Is it too soon to get these noises checked out? I have to take my car in to get my MFSW fixed, hopefully, soon, so it's not like I'd be making an extra trip. If I do want them to check this stuff, should I tell them before I show up for this other service? Or even make an appointment for earlier in the day, just to give them more time?
I have a whole other issue with my dealership having gotten my order a bit wrong, which they are unwilling (so far) to do anything about, so I'd like this little car to be made as perfect as otherwise possible, to make up for the difference...even if it's just for my piece of mind (or is that "peace" of mind?).
Are these dealer shops any GOOD at solving noise issues?
P. S. I've also got a regular, on and off, buzz coming from the underside of the car during low speed acceleration, but I'm wondering if that is normal?

Have them fix it. Not too early, you may develop more as you go though. If the sound bothers you, no reason to have to put up with it if they can fix it.
I've said before, I've used foam tape and electrical tape to fix about 6 or 7 rattles around the dash. Fixed two new ones last night. I suspect there will be more. I had a problem where when I pulled out slow, or when I would brake, the dash would creek like an old rocking chair. It end up being the molded carpet to the right of the accelerator pedal. I had to jam material in that area put pressure against the carpet to stop that one.
You are not alone. Like most people have said, they are mostly small noises, that the radio or open window covers up. But, you really should have them fixed if they bother you.

Wow, that's what I call a quick response, on a fairly old thread, at 6:50 am PST!
Very cool, thank you. I'm still reading up on threads about rattles, and it seems a sadly long list.
I'll get these checked out when I next see my dealer, and then just move on from there, and deal with the problems as they come.
I read recently in one thread that some dealers do a "rattle fix" job on MINI's before they send them out, just to save on the hassle of getting the cars right back with more rattle complaints. Very funny. I wonder if MY dealer can do one of these overall "rattle fix" jobs.

I've got the same buzzing noise from underneath the car. It started a couple of weeks ago along with the driver side door rattle(3k miles on the car). I think the hatch cover is rattling too. I blame a lot of it on the crappy roads here and the runflats. A trip to the dealer to fix the rattles is on my list. But it's not a big deal so far.
BillyB and others, ABSOLUTELY call the dealership and tell them about each and every one of your rattles, buzzes, and creaks (!?!), when you make your MFSW appointment, or just to get those fixed. I've taken both MINIs in for rattling issues and had them remedied under warranty. There is an o-ring that can be installed in the center-underside of the dash, and that has cured my dash rattle! YAY!
