A/C problem

The ac is blowing hot. I cracked the overflow and it went to over filling the tank with antifreeze trying to push it out. After I let it sit it would slowly leak down to where there is hardly any in there. The radiator in hose is so hot that you can only touch it for a minute before it hurts. The fan kicks on normal. The car does not over heat. Any help ?

Opening the expansion tank while the car is either hot or hot and running will result in rapid expansion. That is normal.

If the AC doesn't work as it should you have a problem with the AC, not the engine cooling system.

Have you had the car to a proper AC repair shop? You need to know what the system is charged to and if it is even kicking on. Most times we are servicing AC it is either due to a faulty compressor or something had rubbed through an AC line, short of that it is a very simple system in these cars.

Just got done working on my AC. You can take it to a shop or; 1.) You have a blown fuse, there are 2 or three that control the ac, check your fuse blocks and you can also find schematics on line for which fuse is involved. 2.) There are relays involved, similar to fuses, you need to check them out. 3.) Are you sure the clutch is working on the compressor? Two easy things can cause the clutch to not work, the coil is shot (and minis do have ac coil issues), or, you dont have enough freon in the system to make the contact close and start the compressor. 4.) The low speed fan must work for the AC to cool, the car may not overheat with low speed fan not working but it will.

How good are you with wrenches? If the fan is shot, the system dumped the freon from the high side. There is a thread here on fixing the fan without replacing it, see below. There are also videos out there on how to change the coil on the compressor.

My issue was the fan that I solved with a simple resistor.
