I brought my MC in for the 3.1 software fix/upgrade a little over a month ago.

(BTW, my build date is 04/02. I think the general consensus here is that you already have the 3.1 software loaded on yours if the build month is 08/02 or later.)

The intent was to fix the 'engine stumbling at idle' issue, and post-install it did not improve right away... but I decided to give it a few weeks since we have been told that the software is adaptive. Still no improvement as of last week, so I brought it back in. My technician consulted with MINI USA and they suggested that the software upgrade may not have installed correctly after all. He ran the install again, and since I picked it up yesterday it seems to drop down to idle RPMs more smoothly.

I also had mine reinstalled. It seems to be smoother and I don't have as much of the idle problem. I'm happier this time around. I'm going to give it a couple of tank fulls for the computer to relearn my driving, to see how it fully loads. There was a dramatic improvement when I switched from Sunoco 94 to Mobil 93plus (which is a gas that a number of online members recommended).

will have my dealer install or re-install DME update CD #32. For the record, my car stalled for the first time last night (After it had been parked for the entire day) after first starting and driving the car (Shifting from Park to Drive). All the dashboard lights lighted up and the engine, of course, died (Engine was still cold). Outside temperature was about 62F.

Waited for about 1 minute and the car re-started and drove perfectly fine after that.

This problem is REALLY STARTING TO AGGRAVATE ME!!!!!!!

PS: I have been using Mobil Premium 93 Octane gasoline since I got the car.

You may want to try this...

before you start up, turn the key in the ignition to the 1st postion only, and wait 5-10 seconds before turning it all the way to start. I think I heard somewhere that this helps prevent cold-start stalling.

This absolutely works ! I turn the key to the #2 Position and press the accelerator twice for about 2 full seconds during the 10 second wait (fuel pump buzzing) starter not engaged, you'll hear a click sound after 5 or 6 seconds.
Turn the key back to the off position and then start. Don't hit the accelerator while the car is cranking over. My Cooper S starts with no problem. The dealer told me the computer takes a few seconds to adjust to ambient conditions, thus the starting issues that everyone talks about if they don't wait.

26F this morning in Atlanta and it started 1st time.
