useless dash vent, and always on defrost

Two issues.

When center vents are on, most of the air goes out this useless top vent on the dash which seems to direct air to the back of the car where I obviously do not sit, and nobody else does either. is that the only point of this? I'm thinking about sealing it off so the air goes to the regular middle vents instead.

2nd problem, when on center or floor or center/floor I get small amounts of air going out the defroster this causes condensation on the outside of the windshield. Both of my R53's do this, one has manual controls the other has the auto controls. Is this just a crappy design? Or something broken

At night and in the morning, I get condensation on the right (passenger) side of the windshield on my 2004 R53 with the defrost vents off too. Definitely some kind of leak....

both cars do it on both sides for me, I end up having to turn the heat on for a while to get it to stop

I found a thread with steps for running a calibration mode on the auto AC. I'll give it I try to see if it makes a difference:

After running the calibration mode 2 from the link above, the top vent in the dash no longer blows when I select feet only. I'll see if it solved the condensation issue.

For me, I had to flip the buttons in the instructions to advance thru the modes and activate them.

"Each time the OFF button is pressed a different mode is displayed; to access any mode the AUTO button is pressed"

I actually found in my system that I had to press auto to advance and off to select.

I'll try it on mine, only one of mine has the auto climate controls. Now that I own one of each I wish I could retrofit manual controls onto the one with auto!

manual is sooo much better
