Tips for getting the 02 mini oil filter out-o-the cap

Joy.
These 02 R50 oil filter always get stuck inside the cap piece.

I can never remember how I "go it out" last time.
Mine has the little plastic basket that you have to reinsert back in the filter.
Somehow after 187,000 miles. it has survived, better than my memory.

Whats the trick? I don't want to break the little basket and spring.

I think these are MANN filters. Maybe others don't bind so much.

Pull on it, hard.
Serious, sometimes I'd have to put it in the table mount vise.

So glad they changed that design... PITA!

Thanks! Does the basket stay inside the lid along with the spring?

Yes, they're part of the assembly. The springs puts pressure on the filter to keep it pressed against the housing and the cage prevents the filter from collapsing.

Hmm, I have never had this problem oddly enough. I use genuine mini filters. The filter usually comes out with the cap but I never had to struggle with it.

Yea, my R53's filter comes out with the cap as well. But for the R50... That's a different story.
