R50/53 Engine swap..
Engine swap..
So I purchased a VERY clean 2006 MC at auction for around 900, the lane was being slept on so I walked away with this car.
Decided to keep it for myself.
120k miles
Engine operating normally (put 1k miles on it, driving the hell out of it)
CVT is shifting and operating wonderfully..
Can I swap the w11 supercharged engine in, obviously with a new ECU, and EWS from the donor car? I have one wrecked...
Would the cvt bolt up to it, or would I be required to use the getrag (older guy shifting isn't fun anymore)
I'm sure this has been a topic beat by a bat.. just looking for some clear answers, as google has rendered none.

Engine mounts are different......it sits a bit more to one side...the auto vs the stick in the S anyway...the engine layout is diffent too...battery must be relocated to the trunk if you do an S conversion.
Have not heard of anybody moving the entire drivetrain from a S AUTO TO A NON S AUTO...
Many have done CVT to stick...5 speed or 6 speed...keeping the small motor..
A few have done Cooper to Cooper S conversions...new CV axles, good, etc...
Now...if you are asking can the supercharger S motor be bolted to a CVT...
I wouldn't even try... honestly....
The CVT transmission fails pretty fast with the lower hp and tq of the non supercharged motor...
I'd move it all, including the hood.... from the wrecked S to the Cooper.

Have to agree with Zippy here. I don't think he's saying it's a good idea to swap the S/C engine into a non-S/C car. Further, that CVT is a time-bomb that could go at any minute in a normally aspirated Mini; pushing it with a higher HP engine is a foregone implosion conclusion. Keep in mind you'll also be changing out the hood on the car for the intercooler scoop.
I would agree that shifting can be a pain for "older" people, but the Mini clutch and shifter are pretty easy on the arm and leg. If you like the MC just the way it is, just drive the hell out of it and keep enjoying it! (Until the tranny goes, that is...
