***crunch-2***

OK... I am beginning to think that my Mini is cursed.

Friday I was on the way to drop my car off at the body-shop to have the rear bumper fixed finally... and stupidly decided to stop for coffee on the way. I pulled into the parking lot and was in a line of 4 cars behind a flat bed tow truck. The tow truck pulled all the way to the left and let the cars by. That is, until me. He threw it in reverse and backed the truck right into the front of my car!!!!!!!!!!! I was laying on the horn, but he didn't stop. I had no place to go, as there was a car behind me and cars to the right. The damage is pretty minor, but still! Needless to say, I now have to have the front around the headlight touched up too!

Here's where the story gets interesting. Driver is from Puerto Rico, does not speak English. He has no drivers license. NO DRIVERS LICENSE. Tow truck company sends the "boss" to the scene. (I have called police at this point, and had all of the info from the truck). The boss gets out of his Navigator SUV, looks at the damage on the Mini, and proceeds to curse at me , SPITS ON THE FRONT OF THE CAR , then tells his driver to leave the scene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The police consider it a hit-and-run, and they have now arrested the "boss". The driver and truck are still nowhere to be found. The police are still looking for them. The store front that this all happened in front of has it all (EVERYTHING) on their security camera.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS?

Does anyone want to buy a lightly used '04 MC?

Holy smokes! Think of it this way, you used up your quota of ironic bad luck for a long time!

As for the drivers, I'd press charges, then press charges again. Make 'em pay, big time.

No drivers license!? Yes, take Greatbear's advice and take legal action to the max. You certainly have used up your Accident Quota for a long-long time!

Good luck with the repairs and getting back to flawless condition!

How did you manage not to deck the boss? If he did that to my car, it would have been on. Good thing you kept your cool, because you would have ended up spending the night in jail with the boss. Don't drop the soap.

Very sorry to hear about your MINI. You must have the worst luck.

I think where I live close to is another good example of this kind of scenario (Phoenix). Just last month, 3 people I know have been involved in car accidents. All other parties involved either didn't have a driver's license or/and car insurance and one party even drove off without providing information.

I know what I'm going to bring up is a sore topic and probably need it's own thread in another forum but all these illegal aliens should be shipped out.

Good reason to keep a camera in your car. I usually keep my digi cam in my car so that if I get hit I can snap a pic of the other person's plate. My old roomate was hit by two people without licenses or insurance twice in the past four months.

If everything is on a security camera you are going to own several jcw mini's after the lawsuit against the company, the "boss", and the boss's/ business insurance companies.

The store security camera did get everything, or so I am told.

They are in "deep S**T" as the cops said.

The thing is that it is only a small scratch, and the smallest of dents. It could have been caused by a rock.

It is the principle of it all. IL is FAMOUS for the "License for Bribes" scandal for former Gov. Ryan. He is being prosecuted as we speak for the exact thing that happened to me this week. It really really burns me.

As far as decking the "boss"... trust me, that is so not my style. There were like 15 witnesses there to see the whole thing. He is in enough trouble, and so is the company.

I am just hoping that this is the end of the Mini drama... I took it out (smashed bumper and all) for a long drive yesterday... and I am STILL amazed at how much I love the car.

For the Chicago area people...
*Drove all the way up Sheridan Rd into the North Shore suburbs from the city... there are some gorgeous slow curvy residential roads with AMAZING architecture on them... so it was fun.

I always have my camera sitting in the passenger seat ready to go. It is amazing how showing a camera to someone road raging calms them down.

MiniCoopJD,

Say have you ever wanted to own your own towing business? I recommend that you retain counsel, get yourself a copy of the security cam tape and let the full force of the law loose on that towing company. Hmm, no driver's license = negligent hiring; running into your car as you blasted the horn = ordinary negligence; intentionally spitting on your car might just qualify for an assault, the list goes on and on. Looks like you should get a nice repair job or even more out of this.
