Computer Weirdness

I have a couple questions, if any of you have experienced the following:

I have the Harman Kardon stereo system and it is supposed to increase volume as the care increases in speed. I read the manual to set this and instead of what it should say (something about lin volume if I recall) it says Navigate... All I can think is that it was set up for a car with a navigation system (the stereo is supposed to do some volume related things with the nav system as well) and that they set it up wrong?

The CD I have that came with my car says, if you hold up the power lock toggle that the windows will all roll up and the sun roof will shut. Mine doesn't do this. It also says if you put your key in the driver lock, and then turn it to the left, the windows will open. That doesnt happen either (however, turning it to the left will close the windows and sun roof).

Finally, isn't it standard on all mini coopers that the windsheild wipers will go faster as you go faster and slow down as your speed decresases? Or am I making that up? Because mine don't seem to do that.

I'm guessing this is all set up on the car's computer and I'm probably just going to have to take it back in to the dealer and tell them what is going on , but the problem is, the closest mini dealer is like 2 hours away and I don't think anyone else knows how to approach this car Suggestions/comments???

xoxo Kimmie

I don't know about your HK situation but I have answeres on the window/sunroof issue. If you hold the unlock down on your key togle it will open the windows and sunroof. then to close them you put the key in the door and turn it counterclockwise. I think the wipers are suposed to speed up w/ the speed but you have to have that programed as such. Hope this helps and that I am correct on the wiper thing.

Kimmie,
I have the exact same problem on my 05 with the HK system. No speed sensitivity adjustment like the manual says.

Anyone have speed adjustment settings on their '05 with HK?

Folks, as usual, the MINI Owner's manual is wrong. My '04 MCS has the H/K stereo and it doesn't have the "Prompt" for the speed sensitive auto volume feature either. In fact, this feature is only fully supported on MINIs equipped with the standard CD Boost stereo (NON-HK). My other MINI, a '02 Cooper CVT with the standard CD Boost stereo has the auto volume feature enabled.

The HK stereo processor supposedly automatically either sets the volume up or down according to vehicle speed but in my experience the change in volume is very, very subtle for one to notice while driving.

As for the windshield wipers, yes all MINIs have speed sensitive wipers (Not to be confused with the optional RAIN SENSING WIPER FEATURE) programmed from factory. Remember that you still have a 2 speed setting for the wipers (Regardless of having the rain sensing feature or not) for LO-HI speed.

Take it back to the dealer if you believe this standard feature is not working as it should.

My '04 MCS has these features enabled and work as described in the welcome CD package that came with your car. Also check and see if you have the "Comfort Opening" feature enabled. To activate it, lock all doors using the remote (Make sure you are outside of the vehicle) and then press and hold the "MINI" wing logo (Or the proper button in the new '05 Keyfob) for 5 seconds. All windows, locks and sunroof (If so equipped) should open. If they don't they take it back as the feature needs to be enabled by the dealer using special computer equipment.

The hatch button on the remote has to be held down for 3-5 seconds to unlock the hatch. The cool part is that none of the doors unlock, and when you reclose the hatch the hatch locks itself.

However, the hatch does not "pop" open like on some vehicles, it simply unlocks and the mini lets you know it is unlocked by flashing the hazards once.

Pretty cool.

All of these things have to be programmed by your dealer.

MINI should have offered a 3 button remote key from the get go.

thanks guys

So the manual was wrong and I don't actually have the speed sensitive stereo system since I have the HK... Okay I'll take the trade off cuz i LOVE my HK stereo system.

As for my windows and sunroof opening. My key fob DOES work to unroll the windows and sun roof, and when I put the key in the door and turn it, it locks the doors and then rolls the windows up and shuts the sun roof, but when turning in the opposite direction, the windows are supposed to rolll down/sunroof open and it doesnt. Which honestly is no big whoop when I know I can use my keyfob to do this anyway. But I just didn't know why it wasn't working. Also the fact that you're supposed to be able to hold the toggle of the central locking unit (either up or down I can't remember now) and that is supposed to close the windows and sun roof. But that doesnt work on my car. And I haven't noticed the speed sensitive wipers working at all so I think that is disabled. I mean... if i'm going faster they're just supposed to go faster right? lol Forgive me but I'm not used to having a car with so many toys and I do want them all to work!!! heh heh

I'll be calling my dealer tomorrow to take it in and have them look at those things. In the meantime I've ordered rally lights for my car and was told they'd work with the mini without doing any drilling... YEAH RIGHT... now i'm looking for some sort of bracket to make them work. What I'm utterly confused over is, Hella has a package that has the same exact lights that I purchased, but it's a "mini kit" so I am guessing they have some snazzy bracket to make them work. But the difference in price from the non mini kit to the mini kit, for the same damn lights is a big jump. Its really odd, so I'll be calling Hella tomorrow to find out what the deal is THERE. Sheese... You'd think there were only 10 of these cars in the world for how difficult it is to get anwers out of dealers! Cripes

Thanks for all your help guys! xoxo kimmie

AFAIK, the speed sensitive wipers don't constantly adjust to your driving speed - if you set them at low or high (as opposed to intermittent), and come to a stop, they'll slow down to a lesser speed.

Try this:
put your key in the lock, and turn to unlock.
return the key to center.
turn the key to unlock again; this time hold it in the unlock position for at least 5 seconds.
Let us know if your windows/sunroof open.

It is definitely a computer setting that can be changed by the dealer tech. The first turn of your key unlocks the drivers' door only, and the second turn of your key unlock the remaining doors, as well as activate the opening of window/sunroofs. Turn twice and hold.

I've never heard of this in any vehicle, including any of the MINI's of my friends. Speed sensitive wipers?!! Who cares how fast you're going, all that matters is how hard it is RAINING, not your speed.

My wipers don't adjust to my speed or how hard it is raining. I have to adjust the speed to hi/lo or intermittent.
