Mini code reader advice

Hello all. I am looking for a relatively inexpensive code reader to read the mini engine fault codes. I have been experiencing issues with my r53 going into limp mode and sometimes not starting properly after many many attempts. The OBDII gives a p0229 "throttle position sensor" code but thats very general. Anyone know of a good code reader that will go into more detail and isnt going to break the bank? Dealer and most mini service are charging $140 avg to run a diagnostic on the car.

One of my local indy shops charges 50 for a diagnosis read. Vendor on here ECS had been selling a new device you might want to read up on.

$50 sounds about reasonable for a diagnostic. Whereabouts are you located? Anymore infro on the device you are talking about?

Hey ECS, id really be interested in this code reader if it works as an obdII that i can also use to diagnose some of my jeep issues. Is this only a bmw/mini code reader? Does it only work with the vehicle which vin you enter in the system? Im interested, just not sure how much longer i will own the mini. May need to move into a work truck soon.

You will select the OBD2 icon( on the left) and it will reads all the Jeep codes. Then go to foxwell site after you register the scan tool ( on it ) and you can get the Jeep updates.

The unit comes programmed from the factory with the BMW / MINI / RR specific software which is the icon on the center left.
