Here in St. Louis I get plenty of waves from other MINI drivers. I guess we're just cool people here.

Yeah, I think the wave is still alive in St. Louis. I'd say I get about a 66% return rate

In fact, sometimes when I'm driving my wife's car (non-MINI) my hand flies up in a wave to a passing MINI before I even think about it. I'd say a good 20% of those drivers wave back, though with a confused look on their face.

I didn't mention the non-waving demographics in my original post because I didn't want to get off on the wrong foot, but I'm afraid I must agree.

On another note, it seems as though when Jan and I take a road trip and are far away from any MINI dealership, there is far more interest in the car. Like everytime we stop. Sometimes it's quite entertaining to hear some of the questions and comments, such as the guy who came over and started this exchange:

Guy: "Hey, what breed is that?"
Me: "It's a Mini Cooper."
Guy: "A Mini Trooper? Who makes that?"
Me: "Uh, BMW, actually."

What's the strangest you've heard?

I always always wave and/or flash the lights. Probably 90% or so wave back. Maybe it's because there's still not a lot of us in Tulsa.

In the Miata, you "waved" by popping the headlights up...then the geniuses at Mazda got rid of the pop-up headlights and the wave died a quick death.

Save the wave!!!

This is all too wierd! I've never had another Mini or MCS NOT wave back - and that includes on the interstate. From my experience, I think if somebody doesn't wave/flash/honk, it's because they don't see you. Or maybe it's a West Coast thing...

Now that I've moved to Southern Oregon (from So. Cal.), and Mini's of any type are a real rarity, there seems to be even more tendency for other people to be on the look-out. I usually get flashed/waved to/honked at by the other guy/girl first.

Hey meanboy- as I have been waiting since late march, there have been SEVERAL delays, I have to be enthusiastic to keep my spirits up. Should be here this week. I have learned not to count on anything anyone says about when and if I will ever really get the car I paid for over two weeks ago.

I'd love to wave, flash, etc but I hardly ever see another MINI in Tucson.

Ah, you'll get it soon. We waited one year for our Mini...long waiting list, etc. but we got it. Once you get yours, I can flash(with the headlights, of course) you since you'll be my evil twin..or good twin. Oh, wait, did you change to a black top or have you always specified that?!?

Maybe other Mini owners here in Phoenix just don't like you.

I've only had my mini for a month now and I seem to see more minis here in San Diego than anyplace else. The first time I took my mini on the road there was a lady in a red mini at a stop sign waving enthusiastically with both hands at me. I thought it was pretty neat but I haven't seen anyone in a mini wave at me since. Everyone (male and female) are totally oblivious of anyone driving around them. I try to wave but they don't see me and I feel stupid. I also took a road trip to Northern California and passing through LA I only saw 3 minis and they were also in their own world. It's sad to say but I think the wave is dead.

minigil,

 I'll bet our own Donna of Donna/Mike was the enthusiastic gal in the CR MINI that waved at you! LOL!

I see tons of MINIs in West Lost ANGELes and as I motor up the Pacific Coast Highway to Topanga or Malibu! Saw a bunch yesterday, and had a very enthusiastic wave from a gal in an all-Pepper White MINI! I waved right back, as I always do, and we grinned at each other...so fun!

I wave and/or flash my brights at other MINIs, but sometimes they seem to be in their own world and don't notice me in my Wanda!

Clo/Wanda

Always had the black top. So that would me your evil twin. Did you order thru Eastbay MINI. Had I know all this was going to happen as it had I would have ordered thru them. Oh hindsight........if we only had it beforehand.

Yes, I ordered it thru EB Mini but the wait time was long! But we had a chance to spec it in December 2003 but we weren't ready for it so we passed it up and then we had to wait until April 2004 to spec it. I was getting anxious after ten months.

The funny thing is that now I getting anxious about putting on a 15% pulley and some other parts...Oh, the humanity!

i picked up my mini in march... and everyone waved back at me, even some people in other cars. now, however, all of a sudden there seems to be a huge glut of minis on the road... i can't go anywhere without seeing one or two, and i haven't gotten a wave back in months...
except for yesterday, actually, when i was speeding over a really twisty back road and a red mcs was coming the other way just as fast... we went past each other so fast we barely had time! but i could tell he was having as much fun as me.
christina.

I ran into a lad at the gas station last night who owns an MCS and he commented on the fact that every time he sees another MINI the driver waves at him!!! So happy to hear that the wave is still alive and well in my area of Norcal.

It's funny I always wave at other MINIs, but rarely get the return wave. My business car is a Jeep Wrangler and other Jeep owners wave at me all the time, but I rarely pay attention or wave back. It's all about what car you have a passion for I guess....
