Removing Door Pane Trim For Repainting ?

Hello everyone,

Im new here so not sure where I should be posting this.

I own a 2002 R50 Mini Cooper and have decided to pimp it up a bit. I have already repainted most of the interior trim that was the usually generic gray color (Dash trim, Handbrake, Cup holder rings, Speed etc.). So far Im really happy with the outcome as the trim now matches the exterior colors of my mini (Black & White).

The problem I'm facing now is that im considering on getting the door panel oval shaped trim and handle bracket repainted also. But after removing the door panel I have found that the trim is connected to the panel with plastic rivets that are melted in to place. I know that its possible to drill them off and then glue them back on after I have resprayed them (done this already for door speaker rings), but I was wondering if anyone knows a more elegant method of doing this as im not sure if the trim and handle will stay in place glue since I pull on it every time I use the door.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
