Good to know Prof. Lump. You were in on the engine design so we know this will work just fine. A great pleasure it was to read your posts on the engine build.

Is it possible or is there any draw back from using 1 step colder spark plugs in a stock r53? Looking to do a tune up to the car but still running the stock supercharger pulley. May upgrade in future which is why i want to put the 1 step colder spark plugs the car now. Just not sure when the pulley will be changed.

I second this.

I've had one MSD die on me and replaced a second MSD with the OEM one, because my Mini kept stalling when it got hot. No problems since going back to the OEM.

Grem....

A colder plug on stock can cause problems, such as engine miss. I have not tried it on a Mini so maybe OK but I have seen problems with too cold a plug on other engines.

It may be best to run the stock plugs until you get your pulley.

Anyone have any experience with THESE WIRES? I'm at 100k miles and I think it's about time for some new plugs and wires, plus these come in a variety of colors, gnarly! My cars not misfiring, just doing some preventative maintenance.

As far as those $200 wires go... That's a bit insane!

Those are good wires and a good choice if you want to add a little color to the engine compartment. Otherwise, if you just want black new OEM wires are fine.

IF your coil pack needs replacing, BERU makes one which is identical to the factory, but has the gold/brass terminals which don't rust and you won't have any fitment issues as the holes and OEM hardware to mount it is all the same.

For those those that put dielectric grease on contacts - DON'T, it's not what it's for. You put dielectric grease on boots/sparkplug body to seal against moisture/air getting inside to the contacts and also to insulate against wayward spark getting out. It should go no where near any electrical contacts as it prevents conductivity.

DIELECTRIC = INSULATOR

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dielectric

For plugs, NGK EQUP or BRISK LGS-T - no problems with them fouling up and long lifespan.
