I say screw the dealer. They wanted $120 just to look at my pump.

The recall starts in December so once it begins there shouldn't be anymore problems, hopefully anyway.

As of now, they have not generated the list of affected cars. I did not want to chance $1200-1500 when I can do it myself for $300. I'm waiting for the recall and I just take a hammer and give the pump a few taps every few days and it work for a little while.
My wife's S Convertable power steering just went out (well actually it took her 3 days to tell me). It seems to be intermittent, mostly on start up. I followed the link in this thread to Mini's page to check recalls and after putting in my vin this is what I see:
15V-660
POWER STEERING SYSTEM
Reported | OCT 12, 2015
Status | Recall incomplete. Remedy not yet available.

I have some questions,
1) The car is well within the extended warranty for this problem - will the Mini dealer just fix it even though the recall hasn't started yet because there is already an obvious problem?

2) If we have to wait to fix the car until the recall starts what are the mechanical dangers of continuing to drive it when the power steering isn't working?

If your car is covered under the warranty, I would think they would still honor it.

Despite my previous comment lol, call your local dealer to find out for sure.

As far as safety, there is going to be a recall for a reason. There is a chance it could start on fire, and it's not very safe if you cant turn properly.

Its not going to wreck the car if thats what you were asking. Long term it would be hard on some of the parts but the recall is coming next month.

I say screw the website sites and just ask your dealer. I never purchased the car from them and I'm it's second owner. Just saying.

This was August 2015
If your car had less than 150K on the clock it qualified under the extended warranty.

This may be an indication that your battery is on the way out.

My 2002 MCS wasn't showing up on the list when I check the first of the month, but is now.

Quit getting my hopes up. I had to try hard not to make a big scene at the dealer this spring ranting about the extended warranty not covering my '06.

I wanted to run around and warn all the potential customers how bad the quality is at mini.

In the end I installed a Napa remanufactured pump which has sounded terrible from day one. It has a life time warranty though so as long as I don't loose the receipt replacing it will only cost me 2hr and $20 in fluid.

Lots of interesting responses here. I'll keep my eye out and contact my dealer, who unfortunately isn't the one I purchased from.
