Let me talk you out of buying a MINI. Ten reasons why you don't want a MINI.

1. The MINI is a go-cart on steroids, great stereo and has a roof. (unless you get a Convertible)
2. If you don't like thumbs-up by passing autos, don't get one.
3. Can put a 36" TV in the boot with the rear seats down.
4. Gets 35 MPG on the road at legal speeds. (if you can do legal speeds)
5. Has room for four, if two are kids. (or very small adults)
6. Like washing cars? You'll wash your MINI just so you can touch it.
7. Your other car, the one you don't drive any more, so what if it's a Ferrari, you'll drive your MINI!
8. You will develop a relationship with a MINI, your mate want like it. (unless they like your MINI)
9. You will be coming up with reasons to take a drive somewhere. (even if you don't have anywhere to go)
10. Your MINI will put a smile on your face so wide, you will need a plastic surgeon to remove the wrinkles.

Kids will fit......

That said I'm removing my seats and turning her into a 2 seater because the room in the back of a classic Mini is more than in the new ones.

If you want to fit your kids in the seats you ought to be fine till they get bigger.

I am 5'10ish and I fit, however uncomfortably in the back of a MINI.

Speaking of a car keeping it's value, the MINI I just totalled was a year and 2 weeks old with 13,000 miles on it. The insurace company gave me $375 below what I paid for it new. Get a new one if you want one, we are replacing it with another new one that is waiting to be built. I hate the wait, but the reward will be SWEET!

My kids (ages 10, 11) loved the MINI when I first got it two years ago, and although they still think it's fun to go for a short ride in, they'd much rather go somewhere in our other car (4-door Honda Civic). The MINI's rear seats were designed for adults (as long as the front seats are pulled forward ). I'm 5'11" and I have to slide my seat forward to allow them minimal comfort in the back, and then I'm slightly uncomfortable up front. My daughter is small for her age and even with a booster complains about not being able to see out her window--both kids have trouble with that, as the seats are low and the windows high--and about not having enough legroom, as her legs stick out. (Her knees don't make it to the edge of the seat, so they can't bend.) That being said, the MINI is a great family car compared to the Miata.
