03 Mini radio replacment
Ive been looking for a mini and i found one for a good price but it has one of those radios that the screen comes out when it is turned on, i dont know what its called.
Does anybody have experice with these, and is it possible to replace it with a stock one. What aftermarket ones are good?

Getting the current HU changed out is simple - that shouldn't be a factor in your decision to buy the Mini. Your replacement options are (almost) limitless. Since someone has already changed out the OEM head unit for aftermarket, a lot of the work has already been done for you. I'm not a fan of the pop-out screens myself, but the OEM/factory head unit is pretty limiting. I went the whole nine yards in changing my H/K system out: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...omponents.html .
However, first you must figure out how well the PO did the change-over. Did the car originally have the Harman Kardon "Hi-Fi" sound system or lower end "lo-fi"? Once you get in behind the head unit (HU) you'll find out if the installer used an aftermarket wiring harness adapter (leaving the factory wiring intact) or if the wires were cut/spliced somehow. Was there an aftermarket amp installed anywhere? If no wires were spiced, you should be able to easily revert back to an OEM HU.
But why would you do that?
You could buy a brand new in-dash head unit with a couple of added parts (adapters) and have a great sound system with Bluetooth, AUX and USB inputs... tons of variable options, for well under $200. You don't have to buy there, but go to Crutchfield's website and do some looking around. Plug in the parameters of your car and what you're looking for, and they'll tell you exactly what you'd need to install a single-din HU into your Mini.

I have a pioneer with the 7" pop out screen. I love it because I can run dash command on it. I got the last one in Canada (the new models don't run the apps). I have it currently running with an HK Enabler.
Let me know the make and model of the one you have, perhaps there may be a sale in the future.
