Long story but I had 3 cracked exhaust valves on my '06 Cooper. I'm a nurse, not a mechanic, but have some experience with cars from a former life. My boyfriend and I took the head off and it spent 2.5 months in machine shops for repair... another long story. Got it back last night and we spent the majority of today putting it back together. Everything seemed to go pretty well actually. Prior to disassembly we had marked crank position and cam sprocket to timing chain position. We kept the timing chain suspended so it wouldn't fall down into the crankcase. The car started right up and sounded awful. Kind of like a diesel and worse on the timing chain side. Any ideas what went wrong?? I took a video for the sound effect if anyone wants to play "Name That Noise".
