Oil level was just checked and is fine. When turning the car off, the engine seems to grind to a halt... the last few cycles seem pretty distinct. This issue does not resolve itself after the car warms up.

Any thoughts?

Two possibilities:

Timing chain tensioner (cheap and fast fix)
Belt tensioner slapping around (not as cheap but still cheap and more involved replacement)

+1

Mine did this last week. It was the Timing Chain Tensioner. Park it until you fix it as you can damage the tensioners themselves and put plastic and metal bits into your oil pan and clog the oil pick up. This would be a much more expensive fix. $50 for a a new TCT and a 19mm wrench and a half hour watching you tube videos and you can be back in action.

Good luck!
