Hopefully you'll have better luck than the Dude.

DUDE
When will you find these guys? I
mean, do you have any promising leads?

The policeman laughs, agreeing broadly.

POLICEMAN
Leads, yeah. I'll just check with
the boys down at the Crime Lab.
They've assigned four more detectives
to the case, got us working in shifts.

So, tell us what it looks like and we will keep an eye out

here in Colorado on I-70. Will let you know if we see it...

On anther note, I truly sympathize. Lost a 1967, partially restored, Mustang Convertible while I was in college. My dad still thinks I got drunk and forgot where I put it....

Hi Ho Silver

That's EXACTLY what I thought as I read this! Man, people that like that movie really are on the same wavelength..

COP: We discovered it last night in Van Nuys, lodged against an abutment
DUDE: Oh man, lodged where?

Sorry to make jokes in your thread, CFMini. Let us know what happens!

Do a search, there are several Big Lebowski threads on NAM.

Some of us love The Dude, others The Jesus, still others eight year olds !

What a bummer. I'm wondering how they stole it. If they used a flatbed or a tow truck surely there would have been a lot of noise to arouse your curiosity? Unless, of course, your office is situated such that you can't see outside or hear much noise outside.

That idea of installing a Lo-Jack system is making more sense now.

i tell you the lojack is the greatest, infact auto insurance places give discounts in many cases for having such a system so you will recoupe the first initial investment after a while.

my grandfather had one on his jag, it was stolen and recovered in about an hour, they found 4 other stolen cars with his so, 4 other people are probabley gratfull for his little device.

now alot of people who steals cars will acually leave them ditched somewhere for a day or two just incase such a system is in the car if their smart, then they will take it again, since the lojack is always hiddin in different areas in the car and it runs on its own power sorce thir hard to find and in some case you have to rip the whole inteirior or exterior apart to find it!!!

That's terrible. I hope everything works out for you.

Going to a chop-shop is questionable... typically, theives only want cars that are more common than a MINI as the parts are more "needed" and easier to sell. Unless... someone else in your area with the same color had an accident and took it to a body shop with few scruples...

Sorry to hear about your MINI. When I got my 04 MC they told me that if the raido ever got stolen to call BMW and they would send out a signal that would fry the radio making it useless. So if your 02 has the same thing going for it at least make the bastards buy a new radio. Goood Luck.

Humm! Who care about the factory radio. Instead they should implement the wonderful feature for the car to fry the car, engine, drive train and all making the entire vehicle absolute useless heap of scrap metal.

heck why whait for the dealer! we cant even trust them to handle a simple fix let alone a device that could pull that off,

now you got me thinking! maby a little c-4 and a little transmitter.........but then again i wouldent want to be travling around with that little bugger on my car, so hmmmm

i check with the police around here in michigan and their is onley one car in my whole county that has a hookup for lojack (not to popular around here)
but all state troopers have em so since im near majore highways im always near the troopers

but airforce planes have a feature before they eject everything gets detroyed so the enemy cant read anything!!!
but that would rock indeed!!!

that would be a great deturant cause if they new it was usless to steal then they wouldent even try!!

Hmm... along those lines, how about a feature that erases the memory in the ECU, requiring it to be re-flashed at a dealer?

YEP SAME THING mess with the ignition and wammo no more vroom vroom!

they have systems on the market that kill the engine but i think it would be nice to have from the factory

but the c-4 would come in handy if they towed it, just beacause if you have a system or not theyll get your car if they tow it!!

by the way im happy they got it while you wernt looking cause you might have tried to stop them and then you might have been shot or somthing best thing to do is let them have it, no mini on earth is worth your life.

Mcs Found!!

MCS FOUND!!!

I am very happy to report that Craig got his MINI back! I am reposting this from our club board.

I THINK I JUST SAW MY CAR!!!!! IN CORONA!!!! RUNNING!!

I was going home up Lincoln (south bound just past 6th) and I saw a blur that was partially blocked by other traffic going the opposite direction northbound towards the 91, and it was a MINI with Dark Silver, White Top, (can't be a Cooper, must be an S) but the kicker was the windscreen piece for the sunroof and I saw it from behind as the car went by. That is the Pep Boys special I bought and NOBODY ELSE has the bad taste to put that on their car!!

I dialed 911 and flipped a U but by the time I could turn around in my big *** truck, I lost it. It could have gone either way on the 91.
later that night ....
So I drive around Corona for a hour or so and see a lot of cops around the main streets, so I went home. I get a call at 1:30 A.M. waking me out of a sound sleep that they found the car, do I want to come pick it now rather than it being towed. DO !????????

They stopped the perps at a 7-11. There were three of them in the car. The License plates are gone, my Valentine V1 radar detector is gone, one front floor mat is gone, other than the car being dirty and smelling scummy on the inside IT IS PERFECT!! They found drug paraphenalia, crack pipes, etc. I got an almost new Husky tool kit out of the deal, and a CD Case filled with Eazy-E, Snoop Dog, Lil Rob, all MY favorites!! (NO)

Now the questions come. Cop says "Do you know any of these people?" NO "Do you want to prosecute?" YES They had a key. It is not my key. It is a MINI key. I am VERY interested how they got this key, as we all should be. But I think that they are just locals and not "pros" They got busted at a 7-11 2 blocks down the street from the main Police Department in Corona!!!! Unbelievable. America's dumbest criminals.

Anyway, I want to thank everyone in SCMM for supporting a fellow MINIAC in his time of trouble. IT'S BACK!!!!
It turns out they stole the car without the key (towing, draging, etc...) got the door open and got his address from the registration. They then broken into his house a day later and stole his 2nd key. So the night it was stolen and the next day before He left for work he had all the keys. He checked on his spare key last night and it was gone. He noticed no signs of his place being broken into.
How scary is that?
That's the 2nd member of our club that had his registration stolen and garage door opener taken to try and rob there house.

It's good that the car was recovered - bad that gangbangers know your home address. I have my work address on my registration. If they try to break in there they will get nothing but their picture taken.

Rick -

Yes absolutely right, this makes me uneasy. Could you register your car at a P.O. Box?

If you get a Mailboxes etc. (UPS Store) PO Box, it has a regular street address.

Craig, I'm so happy for you. Congrats on getting your car back.

BTW: did you happen to notice if a black duffle bag was anywhere in the car.

I just hate to hear this kinda news. The odds are slim to none the MINI is headed to Okla. Like others have said, it might have went south by now. Hope everything works out for you
