steering recall question

so my 2003 r53 started to feel a little notch in the steering, especially when stopped or at low speeds. we brought it up on the lift and i noticed that the shaft that goes through the rack and pinion is moving up and down a little. is that covered by that power steering recall that went out?

Nope. It's a normal wear issue. Getting a replacement might be a pain, I don't know if the backordering of those was fixed.

Think you will find that the u-joint on the steering wheel shaft is siezed/worn...
Very common issue...
You can try to lube it...
But it should be replaced...such a popular part(lol) that MINI ranout.... But they ARE shipping the British version(steering wheel on the wrong side) to fit out units...a few minor changes are made during the install...lots of posts on the subject...
But no need to wait MONTHS for a part...THEY ARE AVAILABLE... Just an alternative part number.
And no...only the pump and its fan is covered.
