R50/53 MINI resale values
MINI resale values
Just wanted to share this with y'all.
Take a look at this site.....
http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/resale_values/
States the MINI should retain approx ....61% of it's value.... after 2 years.
As some know I've recently traded in my MCS and got $18 K as a trade in.
Here's some calculations to show that the MINI did hold it's value well
My 2002 MCS orig cost ... $24,300 (pre tax)
I traded in a 2001 Pathfinder for $20K and had to pay the balance $4,300
I only had to pay the tax on the$4300.... so the tax was an additional....$365.
Therefore....my total cost was $24,665.
If I use that price...my calculation would be that the MINI kept approx 73% of it's value after (2) years ...(given that I rec'd $18 for my MCS at 43K miles)...which is not bad at all.
The reality is that I put in an additional (approx) $4000...... into the car with various mods.
Taking into consideration ...that you really can't expect to recoop...mod money
... here's the new calculation....
Using $28,665 ($24665+4000) as the total cost...my MCS held nearly 63% of its value over the same (2) year time period.
This is great news!!!!!
I just wanted to share the number if anyone is interested....?????
What ya think?
Peace,

D, I still think you are one amongst the many here in NAM that are knowledgeable about the Mini. Why the change of heart? I was expecting to see you with a new 2005 JCW S or Convertible.
I know it's apples vs oranges but how would you compare your MCS to the M Coupe?
Seriously, would you ever be in a Cooper ever again?

It wasn't a change of heart.... as much as a change of...direction.
I totally agree it's.....apples vs oranges.
I was in the mood for a more expensive fruit..... and I got one

My MCS was..... and still is a terrific vehicle.....but..... IMHO....still an econo-car.
My new 2002 MCS was....$24,500.
I got it w/ everything you could at the time ( except the nav system)
The M Coupe new... back in 2000.... was approx $48,000... out the door.
The M Coupe I just purchased....at $29,000..... almost 5 years old and with 32k miles on it.... was almost $5k more than my new MCS.
The M Coupe is built exceptionally well for a $50K car.... and the MCS...again IMHO... is built well for a $20K car.
There are no plastic bits on the Mcoupe, there is a bullet proof engine...in the S42 M3 engine... with 240hp/238 torque right out the box (no mods necc), it's tight, responsive, rear wheel drive (which I desperately missed.. again JMO), quirky looking like the MCS and is rare (which is extremely important to me personally in owning a car).
They both have different things to offer...... and I wanted what the M Coupe had to offer....at this time

I've never really kept any car in my 35 years of driving for more than (2) years... so the MINI... was no exception.
I'm kinda thinking ahead and looking forward to a 2002 MCoupe down the road or maybe that Lotus Elise that I didn't have the patience to wait for
.The path is the fun part

I will probably end up with another MINI...I'm sure of it.
When ?.... what model?.... I dunno....
... time will tellI'm sure there will be many new interesting MINI
choices in the future......
