When I started driving we had barely even heard of cars with front wheel drive.
Same story here, my MCS was my first FWD car and although it took a bit of practice to master and is a very capable package if given the choice I still prefer RWD and more engine displacement.

I went thru a Hi Perf Driving School in January of this year which had many different types of cars participating in it. I ate the Corvettes, the Esprits, the Mustangs, and the classic 60's Camaro (or was it a transAM? can't remember...), for lunch in the twisty parts of the track. I had a lot of fun riding their bumber going thru the twisties or if I was in front, then to leave them in the dust only for them to catch me half way down the dragstrip before diving back down into turn 1. Too much fun!!

Hey Nick!

A while back Nick contacted me through NAM about checking out my MCS. I went over to his house one Saturday, and we took turns driving each other's cars.

First of all, Nick's Corvette is a beast. He has an exhaust on there that makes it sound like a Harley. His neighbors love it.

Going back and forth between the MCS and the Vette is really apples and oranges. It was almost impossible to get the Vette's tach over 2500 rpm. The MCS, of course, is happiest above 3000. Driving the Vette, I kind of felt like I was at the helm of the Queen Mary or something. It's just so huge. And of course, it's massively powerful. It handles fairly well, but you can really tell how heavy it is when it comes to cornering.

Anyway, Nick's a great guy, and he deserves credit for being open-minded enough to go from a Vette to a MINI. And we can all look forward to the mods he's planning on. He might not have the fastest MCS, but it should be the loudest, if he gets his way!

I have a pic of my MCS and Nick's Vette together. I'll come back and post it later.

Over the last 40 years I have owned MG's, Vw's--several bugs and a GTI, Muscle cars( 65 Chevelle Malibu/'74 454 Chev Impala/91 5.0 Mustang/98 Z28 Camaro), a 911 Porsche, 02 Acura 3.2 TL Type S and have had fun with most all of them (71 MG Midget a definite exception).

New experiences have added much to the fabric of my life. I am ready to do some serious MOTORING! Thanks for letting me share. Nick

Wait until you have your MINI then go back and tell them how much you love your choice, then they'll really want you commited. The MCS and the Vette are two very different vehicle both with different strengths, the important part is that you are happy with what you are driving. I there are a few owners here who have had vettes and even still have them, most will say they just enjoy the MINI more, their happy so there aren't any complaints from us. I was interested in the vettes until I sat in one and realized I have the opposite issue of kenchan, I sit with my nose above the windscreen in a C5, I managed to fit into a C6 Z06 but would fit if I had a helmet on. Each to his own, everyone says I'm too big for the MINI but most realize I am happy and don't bug me, I've taken my biggest oppents for a ride they quickly saw my side of the story and enjoyed the car even if it didn't have they space they ave become acustomed to in trucks SUVs and mini vans.

I remember reading, a long time ago - during the mid '60s - about a hillclimb ... a shoot-out of sorts, between just two cars: an Austin Mini Cooper 1275 S and a small-block Corvette. Best of three runs. Each car won a round. In the final the 'Vette won by a few thousandths of a second. Moral: They can each be a blast - but they're totally different ways of doing it !

The Mini and the Vette can both be extremely fun cars to drive. But the thing that tips the scales in favor of the Mini, as I see it, is that you can push a Mini on the road without flagrantly violating the rules of the road or safe habits.

Well I hope this picture makes you feel better...

Hot Rod guys are not all the same. The people in here in Detroit were very cordial to me when I injected myself at their meet shopping for Nitrous...they were impressed enough with Msfitoy to give me their "member's only discount" for N2O

Dude, are you serious. MINI more fun than a Z06?

Seriously ... because ain't you got that thing up to 198 yet? (legally of course). Because that beast is screaming to be unleashed.

Taking the Z06 to the limit is a bit frightning due to the higher speeds and power involved. Even doing a simple launch can get out of hand in a hurry. I stomped the go pedal once on dry pavement at 50mph/4000rpm and the rear end lit up in cloud of smoke and nearly swapped ends on me.

I know how this poor Ford GT driver felt...almost

Car:
2005 Ford GT Description:
Driver pulled up to a red light, as soon as it turned green, he revved up the engine, dropped the clutch, smoked the tires and just started to fishtail up the street, finally smashing into a small barrier, spun around and smashed a telephone pole.

Interesting you say this because I've read several times about without having the ... whatever the DSC equivalent is called, I forget .... ON, the tail always comes around, especially on high speed corners. Sound like built in oversteer to me

Yeah, those guys over there are very focused on their vettes. As someone who has both, I can say I like them for different reasons. I've actually considered cashing out of the vette and just keeping the MCS so I can do some stuff to my house. But in the end I keep thinking if I let it go, the wife will never let me have another one. :O Congrats on the MINI. You should like it -just don't expect to be white knuckled and sucked into the seat like the vette but then again that isn't what it was built for.
