must not want to sell it very badly...
If he did, he wouldn't be alienating a portion of his market. As a MINI owner, I've considered getting a Mini as a restoration project. I suspect that there are a lot of MINI owners who would be interested in a Mini as an a project or a second car. (I like 'em a lot, but I prefer the modern MINI as a daily driver.)
He's entitled to his opinion of my car, and I'm entitled to my opinion of him as someone who's trying to sell me a Mini. I don't think I'll be buying from him.

That is a sweet little mini, if I had the spare cash and the time to maintain it I would bid. It's not like your buying his opinion, just his cool little car.

He might be a ******, but his price is great!
$5,000 US and it's met the reserve, for a 79 model with 8100 miles
Shipping is resonable also...hmmmm might need a new toy

This guy is daft... there's no such thing as an Austin Mini Mayfair. It may be registered as an Austin Mini (as mine is), but it cannot be a Mayfair, as that name did not kick in until later. 1989, I believe.
I have a 1991 Rover Mini Mayfair, its registered as a 1978 Austin Mini 1000. He needs to get things straight before he bashes new minis!
I'm on my second new Mini now. Everyone that rides in it or drives it absolutely loves it, and my paint job gets me a lot of waving kids and thumbs up - even a guy with a new Bentley Continental was googling over it.
I hate all this new Mini bashing. The same thing went on with the New Beetle. Okay, yes, the cars are different... but the Beetle was pretty much the same from 1939-2002, the new model coming out in 1998. The Mini was pretty much the same from 1959-2001. In both cases it was time for a change, don't you all agree?
So, for those who have grudges against the new Mini (or Bini, or Medium, or whatever you call it), go soak your head and grow up. I think the new Mini is a great successor, it kept the handling and character spirit of the classic while adding some more refinement. As for me, I love both of my current Minis... be it 1991 or 2003... equally.

READY.......go.......
The MINI is but a collection of BMW parts assembled in England with a Dodge Neon engine.....the S is the same but supercharged.....
That's really rich considering the Classic Mini for the last 25 or so years of it's life was a total hunk of junk. There is a good reason people in the UK quit buying them you know. I'd love to have a Classic to put around in, but it would not be anything after 1972, based on feedback from friends who've owned them.
what a jerk. saying the new MINI isn't even that small. well gee, when you drive one of those stupid Smart Cars, everything else is big. but lets see, he's sacrificed A/C, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, any form of stability control, and performane equal to that of my dad's riding lawn mower (13.5 hp
) this guy isn't a real Mini enthusiast. for starters, a real enthusiast wouldn't sell his Mini, and a real enthusiast would keep it in much better condition than that poor Mayfair. furthermore, a true MiNi enthusiast thinks all forms of the Mini are awesome, not just the classics.
there, i'm done

I mean, what makes a MINI a MINI? Is it the sheet metal that's designed and manufactured just for this particular car, or the dash, or the seats, or the suspension? If it uses the same shocks as another car, does that change the make of the car? The engine block (or a very similar block) is also used in the Neon, but its not the same engine.
It looks like a MINI, drives like a MINI, and says 'MINI' on the bonnet. I like the way it looks and drives, and I think its a good value for the price. If the identical car was called a Studabaker, I'd still buy it, and enjoy driving it.
