I push the rubber button and it won't open. Once in a blue moon it opens but most of the time I have to pull the "rip chord". I read something once about this being a problem but I can't find it now. Is there a fix for this?

 

do you hear the click like it tries?

if not i had to replace my hatch actuator mounted on the body. Very simple to change.

 

they are also prone to rusting out, see if the light terminals are still looking good

Looks at the handle microswitch or an lock mechanism itself. Water and corrosion can get in there past the gasket. Water / salt also goes up under the rear lights lens, then into the grip handle.
