R50/53 Long wait....need advice!
Well, I made it official a few weeks ago, and ordered my MCS. I've read every article on the new MINI, and was thrilled to find this site too. Here's the problem: I'm still months away from delivery, and I need advice on how to kill time til my new toy makes its way to the States.
I know most of you are either still waiting for yours, or at least went through the wait at one time (there are some lucky ones who had instant gratification...good for them!). So...any ideas on how to stay sane while waiting for my new friend? Thanks in advance!

Thanks...the site is great. I really dig seeing everyone's take on the car (Members' MNIs), especially how expressive the car can be for the owner. I get the feeling I'll be spending a lot of time here in the next few months...and that there will be less work getting done during the week. And of course, I'll be scheming and daydreaming about getting the car early. ("Maybe if I fly over to the UK, I can swing by Oxford, drop the car in a carry-on, and sneak it through Customs..."

Travel oversees... that's what i did... I spent almost 2 weeks in Japan to help pass the waiting time...
(reality check: It was really my honeymoon...)
But chattin here helps... and trying (and I know it's hard) not to obsess about it helps... well, i think it would, even when I was in Japan I was trying to see if I could see a MINI or two...

The black was actually my second choice...I ordered a BRG/BRG, but saw a black one as I was leaving the dealership, turned around, and changed my order.
As for not obsessing...I think I may give that up, and obsess away! I travel 5 days/week for work, so I have something to keep me busy. When I'm not travelling, I find myself looking for the little ones all over. I was outside raking leaves today, and I have to admit I kept one eye on the road. No new MINIs to be seen, but a couple of MGs and Austins...
So, chatting with other obsessed MINIacs seems to be a cure. I guess we know where I'll be for the next few months. It's too bad you can't rent one for a "fix" now and then before you get your own.

If possible, it also helps if you can get back to your dealer and take another test drive (or 2, or 3...)...and, I have seen companies that rent the MINI, you just have to really hunt them down. I've got one reserved actually for next week so that I can spend a whole day driving it! I'm hoping that it will help
Hubby and I went for several test drives. On our anniversary, we spent the night in Cincinnati and then we went for a drive at the dealership! Wheeee!
We put money down in May and the car was ordered in September. The car is now at the distribution center. It has been a long 5 months but then again, this whole year has sped by! Believe it or not, it seems like a long way off but it will fly by and you will soon be receiving the call. Once I got my production number, I called 1866ASKMINI and I started talking to them about once a week. That helps too.
Good luck with your wait. Keep us all informed.

Well I've had my MINI Monster Machine for 7 days now, and that was the end of a seven month wait. Granted, my wait was because of my colour choice, but still. I read EVERYTHING. and back in april, "everything" was a whole lot less than it is now, so you should have much to keep you occupied. I have a copy of every magazine that I can get a hold of that has even the smalest menthion or photo of the Cooper and the "S."
The only thing to be wary of is buying cosmetic items before you get your car. I saw SO many pictures of MINIs, that all of the stock ones just looked plain. They aren't. It's just that you can only come up with so many interesting pictures of a given car within its factory colour options. I ordered a custom roof panel that I am npw trying to sell, becasue when i took delivery of the car, the white roof with contrasting sunroof glass just looked too beautiful to mess with. Same with the bonet stripes. Luckily, I ordered the car without them. I still may put them on, but I'm leaving the roof blank.
I had this page as my home page. er.. still do.
YOu can never read it all. Whne I signed up, you could actually run out of reading material in a given day. HAH!!
have fun! multiple test drives are good. I have like 6 dealers within 2 hours of me. it was great.
ANd if you want a custom leather jacket, check out http://www.vansonleathers.com

Also, chances are, your delivery date will come up way before six months. *I* was told seven months, then they called me and gave me a delivery date of FIVE months, if I wanted to change my colour option (BRG was not available on 2002 cars). So you might be up before you expect it!

Good advice, thanks everyone...
I am already spending WAY too much time here (is there such a thing?), and have a stack of car mags about a foot high with MINI articles...
I'll keep hope alive that the order date could come around early...and until then, read, read, read...
By the way Verruckt, I dig your colors... I'm sure the car looks great, congrats!

I am in the same boat as you.....waiting for my Mini. I am reading everything I can find on the web about the Mini, I have visited every Mini web site, looked at all the after market gear, I visit this forum and others while at home and at work a few times a day
Heck...It will be worth the wait!

Gatorman--
I went all black (doors, seats, etc.). Hides dirt, looks clean! I went with the brushed dash, since I hadn't seen the anthracite when I ordered. I still haven't seen it in person (just in pics on this site), so I might be tempted. I think I'll stop by the dealer to take a look.
I was told that the magnesium doors get scuffed easily, so I stayed away from them (but the look sharp). I like the lapis leather, but it's just not me...
What are you thinking for yours?
And dufrinr--I agree...worth the wait!

I'll probably spec out black leatherette, platina dash, black door panels. Also, sport package, multi -function steering wheel, and Harmon-Kardon stereo upgrade on my all black MCS. I'm waiting to see if the matt chrome dash will be available soon. Would also would like to see a picture before I order it. However, matt chrome dash is just a rumor at this point.

Sounds nice. I didn't get the HK stereo...I hope I don' regret it. I guess I can always play with the aftermarket stuff. The HK sounded great though...maybe I should give the dealer another call...(someone stop me!)

You could always take some sleeping pills and hibernate for 6 months. When you wake up your car will be here!
Of course you would probably lose your job if you slept for 6 months, and then would not be able to buy it.
So I guess this is not the best idea! Take everyone elses advice and visit this site several times a day.
