Air bag light reset - help needed :(

Hi from across the pond. I've got an issue with resetting the airbag light on my 2003 cooper s. I've had no joy from any of the forums over here so I'm relying on you my American cousins to get the job done. Here's the original post explaining my problem. Many thanks in advance :

Hi all, I replaced my 2 spoke steering wheel on my 03 r53 with an OMP wheel and the airbag light came on. I have just bought a b200 reset tool to turn it off but after following the steps I can't get the light to go off

it has a stage 1 and stage 2 firing fault listed (codes 1 and 15 on table 10 of the code book)

I then thought it could be a fault with the airbag squib ring so I bought another off ebay .............. and the same faults show. The light goes off briefly after you reset it but then returns.

I've since replaced the airbag squib ring (the white plastic disk behind the steering wheel with the airbag plug wires on it) but the original fault remains.

I really don't know what to try next, Any help would be very gratefully received.

Has anyone had the same problem and can shed some light?

Thanks

Ok this may be a stupid question but what are you using in place of the air bag?

removing the airbag you ll have to have some sort of resistance on the circuit

Sorry, I have put a 3.9 ohm 0.25w resistor in the green plug that connected to the airbag. I originally put one in each of the plugs but I have since been told that there is no need to do anything in the black one. Many people on the UK mini forums have said they have done this and reset the system successfully .............................. but not me :(

Prior to swapping wheels, the SRS fuse should've been unplugged to avoid codes. After resistors are in, replug the fuse & there should've been no light, but we're past that. Otherwise, all seems like should be. Your B200 might be suspect? Ask Maverick for a step by step over at MT. Another option is to unplug the airbag module between the shifter & e-brake. That should turn the light off.

disconnecting the module complete will turn the light off? never heard or seen this.

have you tried different resistors? maybe the one you have is bad? or am i wrong about this they are directional?

3.9 ohm resistors are usually used for Gen1 SRS delete. No, these resistors aren't directional. The airbag light on the cluster gets its feed from the SRS module. This tidbit was shared to me by a respected MINI guru. If not Maverick, contact Rich, aka rkde @ orranje for guidance. He's very helpful.
