Define: OEM

Hi there. I'm on here all the time and am a self-professed "Lurker". My question is, in reading the forums, what does OEM mean? From what I gather, it means "from the factory", or "stock", but what do the initials O.E.M stand for?

Thanks,
Ryan

as Nabarbieri said. Original Equipment Manufacturer. This refers to the company that supplies the part for production or aftermarket through the vehicle manufacturer.

Some additional subtleties:
OEM : Original Equipment Manufacturer
OEM: Original Engine Manufacturer
OVM: Original Vehicle Manufacturer

When talking automobiles the OEM refers to both the car manufacturer and its suppliers (American Axle comes to mind), when talking trucks and machinery the OEM tag applies to the engine manufacturer and the OVM to the vehicle manufacturer. Paccar, builder of Peterbilt trucks would be an OVM using engines supplied by OEM's such as CAT, Cummins, et. al......
